All I want for Christmas is to have all Sarah Palin links moved from Politics to Entertainment tab.

I have been a good girl.
Thanks!

She emailed me to say she is outraged at A&E for the hypocrisy here, for the things that they air on their program that she finds offensive, yet A&E doesn't fire a star or somebody involved in their programming based on what they said but they would when it comes to Phil on Duck Dynasty and this friend, she said that she would boycott A&E and that network, and uh, um, she's not the only one

Anyone want to try parsing this word salad for me?

Oh and speaking of hypocrisy, you know who else got fired for things they said?

Sarah didn't seem too upset about that one.

Keep laughing about Sarah Palin, but when it really comes down to it, half this country buys into the shiat you're laughing about. Oh sure, they might agree that she's ridiculous and kind of a characterture, but the issues she's supposedly being lampooned over are real: hatred of the poor, mistrust of government, especially taxation, drilling for oil, "foreign policy" towards Arabs or Muslims, gay rights, workers' rights, right-wing traditional values.

Buffoon or not, there are many who have conservative leanings towards these things, and that mindset is hardly going away. Also, this buffoon almost became one heart beat away from President. That means she got a lot of support in 2008.

I have a casual acquaintance who I recently discovered has been using me as the "friend" in his "some of my best friends are gay" argument for years.

I discovered his posting name on one of those Freep-like message boards. Even though he's one of the more odious human beings fate has ever forced me to cross paths with, his handle insists that we're BFF's and I'm his undisputed window into the rainbow-colored world of male effeminacy. There are enough identifying marks in his semiliterate rambles to indicate that I'm the one he's using for verisimilitude.

It's weird being used as a body shield like that, without even knowing it. Someone out there is openly spreading hateful remarks and epithetical language, and claiming that it's perfectly okay because I'm sometimes in the same building as him and know his first name. Part of me really wants to get an account and blow his little charade out of the water, but I doubt it would last.

Sarah Palin strikes me as the sort of person who won't let her kids hang out with gay people because she's afraid they might get gay on them. I'm sure she does have a gay friend somewhere - statistics support it - but I doubt he's enjoying being used as her buffer zone.

I had a black friend for a while, he was pissed off too.  I really used to enjoy calling him up to ask about whatever new thing the blacks were up to at the time.  Like: "Hey Marquillis (he said his name was just Mark because he was embarrassed about his real black name, so I just guessed a new name every time I called) what are you guys up to with this twerking thing?  You've whored up Hannah Montana!"  We were good friends, but he had a lot of anger and eventually stopped talking to me.  I mean, he was one of the good ones and it makes me wonder if there really is no hope for us and them to ever get along.

No. Sarah Palin has discovered that she doesn't have to actually say anything, she just needs to string together words long enough for whoever's "interviewing" her to nod and it'll be taken as something uttered in English that deserves consideration by someone with a central nervous system. She realizes that she doesn't need to actually use  language anymore.

Firstly, Sarah Palin is a hack even amongst hack politicians. This is an amateur political move. She knows bigotry against homosexuals is wrong and needs a cover to defend her viewpoint. This "friend" is political cover for when she and her army of Ayn Rand cultist stooges finally get called out for what they are which is to say anti-American, anti-liberty, pro-Big Government bigots. This "friend" is there to somehow show the world that she was never actually a bigot, she was just simply listening to the one homosexual "friend" that she knew to inform her viewpoint which may or may not be now actually considered a bigoted, because really it was never her viewpoint it belonged to her "friend".

Secondly, Phil Robertson and his clan are KLAN. These arsehats are the same people who terrorized the South in my parents' generation wearing sheets andburning crosses to get their message across, and don't worry, they'll remember where they left the hoods and torches here soon enough. The conservative movement, and forgive me for Godwinning the thread but in my honest opinion its not being thrown out as a slur but as a direct historical comparison, have become Nazis. They want a racialy and spiritual pure nation where government is an omniscient presence to preserve order in such a way so as to promote only one race, one gender, and one pure vision of morality. All other ideologies are impure and must be destroyed and anyone who voices something different whether they be rich or poor is acting against the collective whole. For them there can be no moderation, no equivocation, only the pure truth as they interpret it and as is explained to them by the party.

These guys left the annoying fringe territory long ago and as a Southerner scare the holy shiat out of me. Every year these guys get louder and louder and twist the truth with manufactured bandwagon reasoning the same way the National Socialists did in the lead up to Germany's last free election pre-Reichstag fire. Something, someone, somewhere needs to really stand up to these "people" and call them out for what they are before we wake up and start realizing we're living in a truly dystopian future a la "A Handmaid's Tale".

I should clarify however, I don't think this is as much a problem in the North as it is here in the South. These people have seized control of nearly every Southern state to the near total exclusion of all other political view points. The only holdouts are the cities, which make up substantially less of the population in the South as opposed to the North, and which are now being demonized in the state legislatures as anti-Chrisitan, refuges for illegal elements such as immigrants and "socialists".

I'm not trying to sound overly shrill or paranoid but when you look at the all the pieces that sum up the whole, hatred (not disagreement but hatred) of liberals, revisionist history of a better white America, revisionist history of a better "Christian" America, and really really big on the right to own, carry anywhere, and use assault style weapons, then it really begins to look like a create of TNT next to trash fire. You hope it doesn't go off but bets against are pretty long odds.

It's hard for people that grew up being racist in the city to accept there were/are places where it's not a problem.

Okay I just got back to this thread. First you wanted to play the whole marriage is a religious institution game and I'm okay with that. I f you look at it from a very short sighted narrow minded way yep that can be an issue. Not really when taken in context with the meaning of marriage from a  stand point of the civil law but okay you get half a point of credibility on that one.

The racist stuff about how its just about where you grew up is Racist Conservative Revisionist History 101 bs. It was a problem everywhere. I AM FROM THE SOUTH. MY FAMILY IS FROM THE SOUTH. Was there clear economic racism in the cities. Absolutely. But black people weren't being hung from the lampposts on 12th and Porter in downtown they were being hung out in the woods by redneck scum. Even today people who I know in law school who are normally completely nice rational people about everything else, hate black people because they are from BFE Tennessee and if people didn't look down on them so much for it they might still be lynching them.

Robertsons comments are an insult to the millions of Southerners who worked to end Jim Crow. Im not saying millions worked for equal rights or integration but the system of laws as they stood were an anathema to the moral sensibilities of many.

The truth of racism in the South that Robertson doesn't want to admit to is that white people were not asked to sit at the back of the bus. White people were not discriminated against and intimated away from polling places. White people were not being hung by their neighbors or hiding in terror from burning crosses on their lawns. Robertson's comment on race should have kept him off the air, or at least any reputable channel, permanently.

So your fight is with the church's and not with the laws, they are two different things. The laws are what is keeping gays from having the same rights as straights. The church has nothing to do with income tax status, with hospital visitation, etc. Now granted their is so called religious lobby to the govt that has the same confusion you do about what the real problem is, if I was religious I would be pissed off at them as well.

No people want to be married, they can be married by a justice of the peace, they are not suing churches to marry them they want to be married, why not give them the same term and same privledges as you do heterosexual couples who get married.

And you do know that the people fighting marriage equality are what 99-100% doing it for religious reasons, the churches declared war on Gays not the other way around.

Hospital visiting you run right up against Religious hospitals and religious people saying that allowing gays to visit their loved ones is infringing on their right to keep them separate because it is against their religion.

Now I'm sure there is a subset that is religious and actually wants the rite status but that's a whole different battle.

Why do you think it's just a subset? Gay people, who want a church wedding usually want it because they are religious, in my experience. Non-religious gay people usually don't give a crap about churches, temples or mosques.

Disagree. They are engaging in tokenism. Being a racist makes one unpopular with a lot of people, but that one ____ friend which you claim to have is evidence otherwise. Who is Sarah Palin's gay friend? Katie Couric should investigate.

I think it would be a lot easier if they put a star on their forehead or something. I'm sure I work with people that are gay I've just never really worried about it and never walked up to them and ask them if they are gay. Should I, or should I just continue to treat them like I treat everyone else? I have one token, a good friend that was married had kids and then decided to come out, still my friend. I guess my token.

Your friend is a token if you happen to mention him/her in conversations about denying marriage equality but don't want to appear to be a bigot at the same time.

So here's my take on it. Marriage is a rite not a right.

Somewhere along the line the govt. got involved in it and marriage became a legal status.

Now should we recognize the significant other of a relationship with equal status as  we do a "marriage"? should gay couples get the same tax breaks, some visitation rights in hospitals, same status for insurance, same everything in a legal status? the answer is a big "YES". They need to change Marriage status to Mate status.

My question and I'm not religious I would say I was reluctant agnostic is why attack the church's? the real enemy is the govt. and the laws.

Basically - once again, we've screwed up the separation of church and state. "Marriage" as a religious rite should be separate from "marriage" as a legal status administered by the state - and, at one time, they were. But, we've somehow equated the two, to the point where religion is dictating what government should and shouldn't allow. That's the real problem.

It's not just the idea of same-sex marriages - why are group marriage arrangements, such as polygamy, illegal? We allow relationships between corporations that would be considered a stoning offense had they been created between persons. As long as you're all genetically compatible, of sound mind and free will, why in the hell should the government make any form of marriage illegal?

Religion? Sure. Your religion, at that point, could easily limit (or not limit) your relationships any way that your religion saw fit, because they would be performing a rite, not administering a legal status. If you didn't like the limits placed on you by your religion, you could still change your legal status through secular means even as you fought to change your religion's limits. And, conversely, your religion wouldn't limit the rights of non-members by exploiting the state's close relationship with it to control the administration of that legal status.

It's not a hard problem to solve, and we already have the tools in place to solve it. Separation of church and state, marriage licenses, justices of the peace, etc., etc.

A sermon from 2010 says otherwise:
Women exchange natural relations and were inflamed with lust for one another. And the men were inflamed with lust for each other. And they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They're full of murder, envy, strife and hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless. They are senseless. They are faithless. They are ruthless! They invent ways of doing evil!

This was of course over a year before he began playing a "character".

The influence of her and people like her is definitely going away. She may have gotten a lot of support in 2008, but there's a reason she didn't run in 2012 and won't run in 2016, not to mention a reason that the candidates she endorsed by-and-large lost their respective elections; she'll continue to decline in support and people she endorses will continue to lose elections.

I hope so. It's also more likely that big money will be pumped into setting up another charismatic candidate type who continues to tout the values she's hawking. It's not the person, it's the collective ideology that continues to thrive.

Pubby: Firstly, Sarah Palin is a hack even amongst hack politicians.

Someth ...

I don't think that Robertson is a racist or bigot. From what I have read, he and his family have been in entertainment for a while, and they just seem to be playing characters that they created for the show. And while I do believe what you say is going on in the south is true, I have seen it in the North also, That isn't Robertson. What Robertson is is a scumbag that would use bigotry and racial hatred to line his pockets with money. He knew what he said would cause outrage and controversy, and he knew the mouth breathers would flock to his show and buy the shows products, even if they knew about him before or not, because they think that he is one of them and they have to defend him. And that is just as bad as being a racist and bigot.

Sarah says something stupid and lefties like to pretend that they're offended, but they're secretly happy she's so farking stupid and a figurehead of the retarded right, and then people on the right like to prop her up because they think she really gets under the skin of those marxists on the left, but that's only because they're too stupid to realize how meta it all really is.

In the end though, Sarah gets paid, and the more stupid situations she injects herself into, the more she gets paid. Much like Jessie Jackson, Donald Trump, Ann Coulter, Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian.

Palin's gay friend is deeply offended by A&E's hypocrisy in refusing to fire any other reality-show start for 'offensive' speech.  No gay-friend comment about A&E dumping Dog the Bounty Hunter after he went all Mel Gibson about Jews and not one Christian stood up to defend the Jews -OR- free speech, and Dog was brought back to resume taping a while later.  Also no gay-friend comment about Dixie Chicks being erased from country music overnight when Christians sploded radio station phone lines with cries of 'traitor!!' and 'it's un-American to criticize President Bush!!'

Palin's gay friend is deeply offended by public speech condemning Duckblower's gentle humble spreading of the good news of Jesus Christ.  But when it comes to preaching that gays are heartless, faithless, senseless, ruthless, America-destroying, family-killing, goat-farking plotters of evil, gay-friend is all totes McGotes.

Sarah Palin's gay friend is just Sarah Palin speaking her own opinion in third-person gay.
