That dog is obviously frightened of the kid and is likely just trying to bury it before it starts moving again.

Was coming in to say, yup - that dog is just burying a bone.

I was going to say, and will, that he was trying to smother it.

It's been mentioned already the dog was just trying to bury the competition/food/frightening thing.

Even so, if it was supposed to be some endearing act of caring, the dog did a crappy job of it anyway.

/Submitter is quick to apply the best of human nature to a dog, but not the worst, and in doing so, fails.

I'm glad someone else said it, this dog is clearly exhibiting behavior that parents and dog owners should be aware of and understand.

Actually cats cover up the part of the body where the most heat escapes; the head.  They are very clear on the idea of "not freezing to death."  However, they lack a similar understanding of "I also need OXYGEN, thank you."

Not frightened, just trying to bury the smelly thing it found.

1)  Around the 0:56 mark, the dog has a brief "oh shiat!" moment.
2)  The dog walks away with its tail between its legs.

I'm guessing that dog is uncomfortable with the baby and wants it to go away.

There was one point where the dog jumps exactly like my dogs used to when they wanted to play. I'm thinking that's what the dog was after.

But yeah, some dogs get that babies are puppy humans. Not all though.

/owner had the right reaction though, in not scaring the dog and teaching it to be afraid of going near the baby

Definitely, it could have been an act of play.  Maybe the dog was trying to initiate play with with the rolling of the blanket and then turned away with its tail down because it was upset that the baby didn't want to play.

Wow. Baby safe. Much warm. Doge over

looks like the dog wanted to say "Yes, I covered the baby up, you stupid biatch!" near the end there.

"Maybe if you took care of it, I wouldn't have to."

It looked like the dog was trying to find the treat it smelled under the baby's bottom.
