Maybe we need unions for reality stars so that they can't be fired by their employers for farking up.  And more regulation.

You know, conservatives had a perfectly good, "Haha, look at the oversensitive, PC liberal morans" moment, but goddamn, they have snatched away the Idiot Ball on this incident and ran it through the end zone, out into the parking lot, and with no signs of slowing down.

When Jesus handed over the Constitution to George Washington on July 4th, 1776, this is exactly why the First Amendment was written to say "The right of conservatives to continue to be paid to appear on reality television shall not be infringed." Otherwise why would every member of the Continental Congress have proudly stood and had Abraham Lincoln lead them in the Pledge of Allegiance -- the original text that included "under God," of course?

Study. It. Out.

Some groups gain political power by trying isolate, humiliate and destroy others for expressing their views.  The only effective way to counter that tactic is for reasonable people to speak out in support of free speech and in support of the person under assault.  That isolates and humiliates those who brought the attack in the first place.

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people'-not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."  -- Phil Robertson, Duck Dynasty

Actually, they didn't.  All of the "liberals" that I know seem unaffected by idiotic comments from someone on a reality TV show that most of us maybe saw in passing, and were aware of, but didn't care about. And still don't. I mean, theories that this guy is or isn't real stupid, theories that he is or isn't a stereotypical redneck, who cares? He allows himself to be portrayed as such on television.  This is not some great shocking moment in the history of the world and I don't believe anyone was outraged or even taken by surprise here.

A&E made a decision that is actually confusing since they are still airing the show.  It's probably a PR stunt.  Who really care? This is stupid all around. The fact that people are acting like this guy is some sort of hero, though? Unreal.

Senator Leader Trent Lott resigned after the controversy over his saying "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."

Why are you all twisting and distorting the words of Trent Lott? He never said anything about blacks. Blacks were happy in the pre-entitlement, pre-welfare period!  Just because that period coincides with the pre-Civil Rights era is a complete non-sequitur.

You people libruls are bad and should feel bad.

I just roll my eyes and sigh when I see some Philtard foaming at the mouth about his 1st amendment rights. Now if the goverment was to kick down his door and arrest him for what he said that would be a problem. But this is his employer laying the smack down on him. "Libruls" are still cheering about taking down Senator Lott.  They got him because they claimed that they were able to find hidden racist messages in his comments.  But they couldn't find anything racist when their own Senate Democrat leader repeatedly used the N-word in a TV interview.  That's odd.

And ever notice how Libs get all pissy and start pouting when their attack fails.  That's what I've been seeing in the whole Duck Dynasty thing.

No one's trying to silence him. No one has put a gag in his mouth.
We've laughed and claimed he said something  stupid. True, A&E said, "we'd better take him off the air before he says another stupid thing and we get blamed", but that's not the same as putting a gag in his mouth. He's still free to say whatever he wants, and we're still free to point and laugh and call him stupid. Of course, this may have a chilling effect, he may realize he has nothing intelligent to say, and we're just going to point and laugh the next time he opens his mouth. But the choice is his. Entertain us, or shut the fark up. Same choice you have.

And I respect your free speech right to point and laugh and call people stupid.  But when only radicals speak out, and ordinary people stay silent, outfits like A&E get the impression that they got to placate the radicals, and that regular folks don't matter.  Mainstream people got to push back sometimes, so that companies like A&E realize that there is more risk in offending the mainstream than there is in offending the loudmouths.

It's amazing that folks can't somehow separate the idea that, just because he has the right to not be arrested by the government for being a bigoted, lying asshole, we don't have to pretend that he isn't a bigoted, lying asshole.

He has every right to be a bigoted, lying asshole. We have every right to call him a bigoted, lying asshole for it. Why is that so hard to understand?

All the whining about this Phil Robertson guy and not a peep out of anyone regarding the troll headline about Larry Flynt?

You do realize that  Hustler Magazine Vs. Falwell was a unanimous Supreme Court decision that upheld that parody is Constitutionally protected speech, right?  Not to mention his numerous obscenity charges?

That is what being persecuted entails.  Not, "a private company might kick you off their fake reality show."
