Gotta say, that's why you check the seal on a package. Factory shrink wrap has a different eel than what you can do on a small machine devoted to DVD's at the local Movie Hutt, but the uncaring attendant doing returns at WalMart doesn't care.

And why are they the last to know about this scam?

I've only once ever returned anything relatively expensive to Wal-Mart (wireless router) and they opened the box up, inspected it, and even checked the serial number against the one on the box.

How does this even happen?

You just don't know how to properly use headphones. You need to burn them in for 48-72 hours using a continuous loop of white noise. Then you put them in a humidity controlled container and alternate the temperature between 62 and 94 degrees Fahrenheit to thermally break in all components.

Also, make sure you use Monster cables if you need to extend them. You can get the cheap $44 cable if you're looking to save a buck, but personally I would spend the $128 and get the ones with 24k gold contacts.

If you don't do all this they you hate music.

And make sure you get an alternate electric supplier that mostly uses hydroelectric.  Hydro power is smoother and more mellow than coal or nuclear, because the turbines spin slower.

I've always wondered how all that stuff makes music sound better if they didn't use all that stuff to record it in the first place.

Yeah, I'm with the crowd that says this is what you get for buying shiatty Beats headphones for "style" instead of buying Sennheiser or Blue Ant or something that actually does more than pump the bass and put Dre's name on the box.

So really, fark this family. People who blow that kind of money on crappy headphones kinda deserve to be taken as suckers.

I once bought a video card at Wal-Mart, and when I got it home, the card wasn't the one I'd paid for. It was even an AGP card, when I'd bought a PCI-E card. Of course the SN's didn't match. It was obvious that an employee had done a bit of upgrading, and stuck his old card into the new box and resealed it. I had to go round and round with them, but I eventually got the card I wanted (after opening it in front of them to determine it was the right product).
