Yay, I'm back in the world again!  Just had to re-up my TF.  I was going into Caturday withdrawal.

FFBSA - congrats on the new babby!  He's adorable!

My cold and I are going to bed so I can be half alive at Mordor tomorrow.  See you guys later.

*hugs* and *skritches* to all.

Well, the cats had a good holiday sharing bird meat that was garnished catnip.
However this morning, our older cat scared us. We have a tower by the bed where they sleep when not taking over the bed. He let out a loud blood curdling screech, rolled off the tower but righted himself to land, then demanded "his" pillow and curled up on it with my arm curled around him. He hasn't let me out of bed today (I have a bit of the flu, I had not planned on getting up either). Outside of food and the letterbox he just purrs and wants to be held.

WTF? Why do you think he did that? You think he had a bad dream or something? I mean, we know they have dreams, so it's not like he couldn't have had a bad one and woke up all upset and in need of comfort. Would have scared the crap outta me, too!

Is he just not usually this.... attached.... to you? Maybe he's not feeling too terribly well. Gosh, I wish they could talk sometimes so we could ask them what's up.

Diocletian's Last Cabbage: /hooray for female privates!

That is so cooooool of you guys!  I did my stint in the U.S. Army late 70's to late '80s as a medic.  Really liked my "job".  Would've made a career of it, but... accidents happen.  Forced me to Plan B.  Not so bad, considering the alternative.   But I digress...

Young people venturing into the military these days are taking much more of a risk, so that was a very thoughtful thing for you to do.  I know they appreciated it.  Kudos.

Not sure why he screeched. First time other that a cat fight with our other cat years ago. The kid thinks he had a bad dream. Panther has been "clingy" the last two years (he is 14 now). Quite often he gets me up in the middle of the night with head bumps or a swatting paw until "his" pillow is pulled out for him to curl up on.
Probably hitting the vet on Monday.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: I will not discuss the whys or hows or anything else, but my restraint in that area has been amazing.

I know it's maddening, but few families these days are untouched by that kind of dysfunction.  Sometimes it's all you can do not to gnaw of the side of your tongue when opinions are exchanged.

Don't forget to care for yourself in the midst of it all.

CrankyAndi: Life is ironic.  I took some sick days here to use them up at the end of the year.  And today....you guessed it, sick.  My head hurts, throat feels funky, took a 2 hour nap on the couch with the dogs.  I'm hungry though....beef stew in the crock pot and smells wonderful.  I'm hoping this was just a funk today (since I woke up at 3:40 am.....wth???)

Oh, yay.  You're stewing up the right kind of meds.  Great idea, sick or not.

Back at long last, type at ft of pg 6.  Think again it was cynicalminion who typed i know they say nobody should have to bury their child, but i hope i go first...
Bet I typed last week about Cmd Sgt Maj Ret & lady wife in AK who lost a son, Lt Col on active duty in Korea, to hernia repair gone badly wrong. He was just 42.  Left also active duty widow & coupla kids.
Reckon can type at ft of pg 7 in AM. Pl & I decided en route home from Festive Dinner that I need not go help him Clean Up Lodge tomorrow AM (svc reps come to clean out beer line @ 10:30, I could go to drop off late mom's heavy portable typewriter, extra ribbons & cans of gooshy food our owners don't fancy, to she who owns house near Lodge that chorusmnate of mine's son used to own, also cares for/is owned by several cats, some outside some inside, whose own typewr not now working & noplace seems to still fix same). Later if not sooner; maya typed on TFD thread that Chaucer devised "better late than not" in/for Yeoman's Tale within Canterbury Tales.

See, this is why I don't bake.  In such cases as this sugar is a "wet" ingredient.  It makes no sense, but it does.  And it makes my head hurt.  Pie crust and I don't get along at all.  Pie fillings on the other hand...  MMMmmmm.

At his age, a vet check is probably a good idea for some blood work from time to time anyway.

Yeah, I've not been taking care of myself and that's changing. I've run myself into the hospital trying to take care of absolutely everyone in the house for the last time. Now that my grandma has passed away, there's no reason for me to be here other than very cheap living expenses. I do need to care for myself, so considering the circumstances, I think it would be best if I held on here for as long as I can so I can save money to get out in a sane manner and actually be able to afford things like utility deposits and the bare minimum of furniture. I sold or donated almost all of mine years ago when we all moved in together. I'll be using my temporary disability time to try to get into low income housing and people tend to move more in the spring and summer, so I just have to make it until then and keep my fingers crossed one of the not too terrible ones has a studio or 1 bedroom come up. So I guess something good did come out of my latest bout of deathly ill. I'll totally qualify for low income housing for the next 11 1/2 months. Huzzah! Always look on the bright side of life...

Hi sweet Alien! I have missed you so very much and know that everyone else has too! Gentle hugs!

I hope you all had a nice Christmas if that's what you celebrate and Santa brought you and your kitties lots of goodness. We don't do much here, Cretinbob had to work, all my kids are in different states,  I like to enjoy a peaceful day without all the crazy family hoopla.

We've been busy for the past week rounding up cats in a condemned trailer. The elderly couple who lived there had to be physically removed by the sheriff dept, code enforcement condemned it and they can't go back. The big problem is they left behind over 20 cats in the singlewide trailer. Our local SPCA doesn't remove animals empty buildings,  so they left them there to freeze and starve to death. The sheriff dept, code enforcement and senior services called me to see if I could help, we gathered up some helpers and spent the week removing cats from the trailer. Many of them were friendly and we could just pick them up, some were unsocial and we had to trap them. We removed 19 live cats and kittens, found 3 dead cats, and have to go back for one or two very elusive cats who aren't letting themselves be caught.

The cats were in pretty bad shape, emaciated, dehydrated, snotty noses and goopy eyes. One had to be euthanized, it was beyond hope. They rest have responded to medication, good food and clean water. We do have one who tested positive for feline leukemia, another tested negative. Monday we have to test the rest of them.

This place was beyond disgusting. The code enforcer told me this trailer had the worst roach infestation he's ever seen. The elderly man who lived there was bedridden and refused to leave. One of the dead cats we found was in the bed. I'm hoping it wasn't there before the guy was removed.

As most people were shopping and planning their fancy holiday dinners, I was in a cockroach palace doing some cat wrangling with friends! I think it was probably more fun. It was like one of the scenes from Animal Cops, walking around with crates and traps. The cats are all safe in foster homes, doing well for the most part.

So what did all of you do exciting for the holidays?

I'll spare you the worst photos, but here are what some of the cats looked like when we got them.

Alright. That is just one of the sweetest, cutest, most adorable cat pics EVER. I love the look on kitteh's face. It just says so much with that look.

I need to feed the feral cats that live on the other side of the greenbelt. We neighborhood cat people take turns and I've perked up quite a bit so I get my turn back. Later, I'll try to get a picture of the Yeti that's been showing up in my back yard for lunch for about a week now and a pic of Moo Kitty, the semi-feral that actually lives in my back yard.

Also, I should probably eat something as well. I'm thinking a small Denver Omelette, a banana or apple or pineapple chunks and a toasted half an English muffin would be nice, but we'll see what I've got in the fridge. I furgotted already. :-/
