Dat first paragraph.

I fail to see how shipping arms to untrustworthy governments in the Middle East is "spiffy" unless you're a munitions manufacturer.

The U.S. has sent Hellfire airongoing campaign against the country's branch of al-Qaida-to-ground missiles to the Iraq's air forces, which is using them in an , officials in Washington and Baghdad said Thursday.

Our foreign policy has been stellar.   No worries.

So they're strapping Hellfires to these:

I would LOVE to see a king air prop plane shooting off hellfire missiles. That would be way cool.  So long as you're not on the receiving end.

I mean, it's not like they could end up in the hands of the enemy to be used against us or our allies or anything like that, right?

Can't they get Iranian knockoffs cheaper with next day normal ground shipping?

I think about 99.4 percent of people we sell weapons to... don't like us.

You're going to have to be more specific

The US isn't stupid.

Usually, these weapons systems have an engineered back door or kill switch put in them. You know, in case they're turned on us at some point?

They aren't really that dangerous, they are strapping them to prop planes for farks sake.  A standard infantry platoon has the assets needed to shoot those things down.  Rush Limbaugh has a scarier aircraft.

Uh, no. I'm completely serious.

Most electronic-based weapons systems sold overseas are crippled compared to the ones in active service with the US Military or have undocumented "features" in them.

Is that why the US was so hellbent on buying back those Stingers from the Taliban once the Soviets left?

Export models of missiles, planes, radar, tanks, etc. just have less features or not-up-to-date electronic components so they can't quite compare to the seller's own stock.  And even if the killswitch BS were true, al Qaeda In Iraq doesn't really have any launch platforms for those Hellfires.  They would just crack 'em open, take only the explosives and possibly the outer shell of the missile in order to construct an IED.

No, different issue. Hellfires are laser/radar guided, and required some type of weapons platform to fire it. Stingers are MANPADs, meaning it's a man portable ground to air missile that can be fired at helicopters and airplanes.

Do the insurrectionists have anything worthy of being shot with a costly hellfire? Do they have vehicles that cannot be eliminated with cheaper rockets and 20mm guns?
