Can you loan him $10, though? He ran out of gas and his car is just around the corner. He's supposed to be at a funeral in a town 30 miles from here. His wife and infant daughter are in the car waiting for him. He lost his credit card. So, please, can you just do him a solid and lend him $10 so he can gas up and get to that funeral?

Some guy stopped my coworker and asked for $27.49 so he could buy a bus ticket to a small city about 60 miles from here (with no Greyhound stops). Odd amount. I guess his crack dealer was running a special.

People are less likely to question a specific amount. That sounds like it could be a ticket price, so it makes the rest sound more real.

It also sounds like the complete amount of something with tax ($24.99 + 10%).

It's more than that. In the captions he is claiming he actually took the pictures. Did you not see the sunrise one where he wrote "I would say the sunrise at 7:30 with the storm moving in was pretty awesome. This was actually a test shot". He has no idea what f*cking time that picture was taken because he didn't even take it. Plus it wasn't his "shot". Shot means you shot the picture. He was being deceitful and should be pummeled off the internet by the internet.

It's sad how common those stories are, especially the "left my wife and kids in the car" detail. I'll toss a few bucks at a panhandler for a good story, but I don't reward lazy, recycled cliches. Start doing that and it's a slippery slope to padding out your Blu-Ray collection with W.S. Anderson movies.

So much this. IME, if someone says "praying" in a context other than an actual religious service, or as in sympathy for a personal loss, run.

Or, in the words of WSB: "If you're doing business with a religious son-of-a-biatch, get it in writing. His word isn't worth shiat. Not with the good lord telling him how to fark you on the deal."

Wow you guys get creative stories.  I think all I have gotten is some version of I'm stranded here (for reason X, Y or Z) and I just need bus fare to get to back home to this other state so can I spare $10?

There's another guy who I've read stories about.  He's really popular and apparently wildly successful because he does it "professionally."  As in he owns a home (I have no idea, I assume it's not exactly the most glorious home ever but what do I know).  He dresses down, rides a bike into the suburban "downtown" area and panhandles.  The way he does it is just be friendly and cheerful, says hi, says have a great day and so on.  Never asks for anything but he's got his cup laying there on the ground and he has been doing it for years so he knows a lot of people who wander by regularly.  It's tough, on the one hand I find it kinda annoying he does this "professionally" but on the other hand, he's really a nice guy.

Read about this the other day. The "photographer" has incredible kahunas. He's a gutsy shyster who works really, really hard at cheating the system so he doesn't have to work sort of hard. But his mouth and blatant lying after being presented evidence are keeping him in hot water. This defamation suit is a dying grasp....

This all sounds like bad press paid for by a competing photography company and like nothing really wrong happened. Using stock background images from a paid art account is the bread and butter of high school photo shoots. In the photography business there are a lot of customers that would like their likeness stuck into a nice stock photo. Most real customers don't have time or money for on location photo-shoots.

Quote from tumbler: "I've checked in with the original photographers and outside of the stock agencies he's not been granted permission to use the original works in this manner "

"and outside of the stock agencies he's ", so what is that supposed to mean? What that sounds like is a photographer sold his photo to a stock art company and the stock art company is reselling it to this company. This is normal. The original photographer hasn't directly granted permission for use in this manner, but normally he wouldn't do that because the original photographer sold his rights to the stock art company so the original photographer is irrelevant and the rights the stock agency holds is all that matters. What it sounds like is everyone was paid. The argument in this quote looks false and is worded trickily to get people upset. This nitpicking sounds like pedantic nonsense.

Quote from tumbler: "some images he used are NOT stock and he did NOT get rights to use the images".

This is the tumbler posters claim but, they didn't post any proof backing this up. This is an accusation and a fairly unimportant one. Even this tumbler article admits that the photography company made some efforts to secure digital rights for at least some of the photos, so this doesn't sound like the company is trying to skirt the law. At worst a mistake was made with some of the digital rights, but that's an easy mistake. And so far this tumbler article hasn't even proven any mistakes were made. So far I'm only seeing accusations and zero proof.

Quote from tumbler: "Note that most of the images you are to share to win the camera aren't his but that fact is buried but is there, kinda, so I'm not listing them."

So there was a legal disclaimer for at least some of the photos, but this tumbler head is complaining it was difficult to find. Well boo hoo.

Quote from tumbler: "Combined with the fact that he's less than a year into the business"

So this is a new business in a competitive industry and some tumbler guy has been keeping track of how long this company has been in business? I'll say again, this all sounds like a negative seo ad campaign to me. Fake news.

It's a gray area.  In this case, most of the image appears to be stock... I'm assuming he photographed the person.  The bit about waking up at sunrise is disingenuous, why would he say that?    But, it's not unusual at all to replace a sky with a more dramatic (or less dramatic sometimes) stock sky, or background parts.  Sometimes we shoot interior locations and replace the view through the window with a stock cityscape so it looks like it was shot in an urban loft.

I stand by that he's more guilty of being a douche than anything else.  I'd reserve the haterade for people who literally copy/paste other's works into their own galleries.

I agree with you there, that is just asinine.  Composites using stock are pretty common though.  It seems to me he should market himself as more of an artist than a 'photojournalist', which is silly.  And use legit licenses.

Once had a person approach me and a girlfriend in a restaurant when I lived in Oregon. Sob story about formula for kids, etc. She (gf) was ready to give money but I gave her a look of, "no, no. let them speak some more."

They went on to say they were from California, specifically the town I was born and raised in. I asked them about very specific and well known landmarks in the area and they stumbled. Hard. They had no clue what I was talking about.

I still laugh because I know they went on to other people using the same line but the look on their face when I let them know I was from the exact place they pulled out of their ass still makes me giggle.

Has anyone confirmed the pictures of the models are his?  The ones in the mini-session template sure weren't.

In the comments on the CJ FB page, there's this (reposted in the comments at TFA):

"I have a comment/question that is totally different from ANY of the 450 comments on here....Is he still sick and dying? When I met him last April, he would tell me every week that he had various treatments for Cancer and liver dialysis --that he was in fact dying..Ii would always try to ask for upcoming information and help him with any moral support I could, but it was very difficult because he would become very defensive and dismissive if I dare asked a question. He was VERY sick every week or every other week -constantly...and then in the 9 months since I last had contact with him, I have never seen him make any mention of it....Is he still sick or was the Cancer cured?"

IlGreven: MSFT: So... did I miss the part about him claiming to have cancer? Or was that a joke that went over my head?

Thanks to you and "Good Behavior Day"!
