Me thinks you hit the nail on the head there, many of those exotics are in collections and most collections are owned by men.

I'll take the McLaren or Ferrari or maybe the Fiat!

So they basically just took a list of expensive, high end cars that women simply aren't able to handle/drive, and made a news article about it?

Color me shocked.

croesius: So they basically just took a list of expensive, high end cars that women simply aren't able to handle/drive, and made a news article about it?

Did you miss the part where it mentioned ownership? As in they looked at ownership statistics and the listed makes are the ones with the lowest female ownership? And did you notice that only 4 of the 10 listed are sports car makers? And that several aren't expensive nor high end?

2013-12-26 06:09:02 AM
This relates to the article recently about advertising to women. Obviously women pick smaller lower powered more efficient cars with more cabin and boot space because they are victims of the male dominated world that is convincing them to not want a car you can`t fit your shopping in, does 7MPG and only has two seats...

I want one because I like the feel of acceleration and however much you like to think all rich men have small penises that is simply not reality but if it makes you feel better that they also have a small penis then go for it, you must need it...

When are we going to see an article about earrings and how men just don`t buy them which means some form of sexism or something?

I was surprised Volkswagen wasn't listed that highly for female buyers.  I can't imagine most men would want to drive a Beetle, a Cabrio, or a Golf.  Also all of their other vehicles are gender neutral at best.

No one has mentioned money yet?

The only people who can afford most of those cars are multi-millionaires and multi-millionaires tend to be men. Therefore the ownership rates will tend towards men.

I drive a bright blue Honda Fit. It's more of a teal really. I picked the car, my wife picked the color. The thing is an absolute blast to drive, and I get a shiat ton of cargo space. The only thing I'm missing is some towing capacity, but I can always borrow a truck if I need to move anything that big.

All the cars in TFA are status symbols. Most people (male or female) who actually care about cars and performance likely gravitate to less outlandish and extravagant models. You don't need a $400,000 car to go fast, and society doesn't urge women to display their social status through symbolic possessions. (A large part of a woman's social status is linked to her physical appearance anyway, so expensive toys aside from ornamentation, ie shoes, purses, etc, aren't really expected)

The exception probably being the Ram, since Ram owners are likely to be employed in the construction field, which is a male-dominated profession. Though it's also a status symbol (for a more white-trash demographic).

Okay, and how do you propose men attract women long enough to display their honesty, integrity, sense of humour, ability to see the same in other people, and compare vices? By driving a cheap car, wearing cheap clothes and insisting that the woman pick up the tab at the bar?

There are simply very few female gearheads. I've met a few here and there. Most are into it because the hubby or boyfriend is, but I've met a couple chicks that were into muscle cars. As in owned and wrenched on it themselves. Would happily drag race you when the light turned green kind of chicks. There just aren't many when compared to men.

10% of the world's millionaires are female.

So basically, the breakdown by gender of who owns cars only millionaires can afford is roughly the same as the breakdown by gender of who are millionaires.

This.

This sorry excuse for an article is absolutely stupid. It reads like it started with a conclusion and then went looking for whatever facts backed it up without regard for context.

It lists cars that are the domain of millionaires and uses these cars to show that men only want to look good and feel good. Then it uses the purchasing decisions of middle class soccer moms to show that women are more responsible than men when it comes to these things. Once you become a millionaire things like fuel economy become meaningless.

Besides, women want that that status and feeling, too. Atrocities like the Porsche Panamera sell extremely well because upper middle class wives want that Porsche badge for the prestige they think it brings but they still want their crossover/SUV like thing for hauling their brats around and feeling big in traffic, too.

2013-12-26 08:56:32 AM
Because many of those cars have stick shifts?

My wife and sister absolutely refuse to learn how to drive one.

I though the same thing, but Ram Trucks was spun out of Dodge to be a standalone brand under Chrysler. It's a little bonus stupidity.

I drive a Fit and love it.  It was my first new car where I had the budget to be picky.  That thing is like a TARDIS with how much space it has inside that you wouldn't imagine it had by looking at the exterior.  With the rear seats folded down I can easily stow my bike in there without taking the wheels off, and it averages 38MPG.  I haven't ridden as a passenger in it, but those who have comment that they like how high the seats are which gives them a lot more leg room.  The only drawback is that it's so lightweight and has a large side profile that you sometimes have to fight crosswinds a bit, but that's a minor complaint.  It's a bit low-powered, but for 99% of my purposes, I don't need it.

Ram isn't a Dodge anymore. It is its own nameplate now, making only trucks and commercial vehicles - kinda like GMC. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.
