I love the Daily Mail and Huffpo's habit of highlighting the shocking WORD in their headlines. I got a kick out of them highlighting it in the URL as well.

Anyone else notice that Newt Gingrich et. al. play ball with the establishment and no one brings up their affairs, but Spitzer and Weiner, who actually supported tough Wall Street and banking reforms, are tied to their affairs, and known by them more than their own policies?

I'm sure it's a coincidence.

It's more like Republicans liken their infidelity to god testing them, and it all becomes about their personal growth -- it actually makes them a better person. Their constituents eat the garbage up.

Spitzer should have never resigned in the first place -- he should have just fought it out.

As for Weiner, he dug his own grave by lying over and over again. And everyone was ready to forgive him -- at one point he was leading the NYC mayoral race -- but the "Carlos Danger" crap did him in.

For me, it's refreshing to see an old fashioned, old man/young woman affair in politics. No foot tapping code in bathroom stalls, no male pages, no mysterious deaths from auto-erotic asphyxiation, no texting pics of him shirtless nor his wang. No rehab to "pray the gay away". Just gorgeous call girls followed by a trophy girlfriend. It's almost respectable.

This is the problem of living in New York, I had client number 9 as both the states AG and governor and I lived in Carlos Danger's district before he used that alias. OH what I have to go through

Embarassing and scandalous as it is, did either of those things affect how they did their jobs, or were hypocritical when held against their legislating or enforcing of laws?

He should just move into Weiner's bachelor pad at this point.

Spitzer as AG made it a point to go after escorts and their clients, so the hypocrisy is there, but otherwise no not so much

Cmon Spitzer was in a lurid hooker scandal and his wife stood by him. You already have a reason that has nothing to do with that.

He was married to a cousin of mine so I'm getting out of.....

Don't worry - New York also has the assemblyman getting his new female staffer acquainted with the job by taking her to a massage parlor story working this week.

Bonanza Jellybean: The man loves him some young trim waaaay more than he loves a career in politics.

You're more right than you know. They all love themselves some young trim in New York politics, and believe themselves entitled to it.

The state legislature has been a fraternity house for decades, except instead of fraternity brothers there are a couple hundred creepy lawyers. There's a thing called the Bear Mountain Bridge Compact, where a lawmaker and senior staff can have themselves a little something on the side long as that business stays north of the Bear Mountain Bridge.

Back in the day legislators would send their staff out to college journalism and poli-sci programs to scout campuses for potential  strange interns, and the girls who got the gigs in Albany would then be herded into a small room and picked over for whatever traits the legislators wanted. This went on and was common knowledge until about ten years ago when the assembly speaker's chief counsel raped an assemblyman's press secretary. He got a slap on the wrist and the taxpayers paid to settle with the victim. Now the cattle calls are somewhat more discreet.

It's farking creepy.

Several lawmakers, longtime Albany political operatives and former staffers argue that the reason is clear: for too long there has been a "boys' club" atmosphere in the capitol where women are pressured to go along to get along.

They blame a failed system of protection for women from unwanted advances and inappropriate behavior from male superiors - including outdated and sometimes confusing requirements for reporting sexual harassment that fail to provide the kind of safeguards that exist in the corporate world.

They also argue that Albany has grown so accustomed to hostility toward women that it just seems routine - and that the Lopez scandal should bring about change in Albany.

Which it completely didn't.

I guess you could say that as sleazy as state legislators are, what Spitzer did is defensible because at least he paid for his sex instead of behaving like some middle-management slob straight outta the 1950's.

The only reasons most guys get into politics are 1) Money and 2) Power, both of which they plan to use to bag young trim. If he's already getting laid, why bother putting in all that work running for office? Just get to the sexin'.

I'm glad Eliot Spitzer's not dating my sister, but I'm still not sure why we're supposed to hate him. Jealousy, I guess.

2013-12-25 10:12:49 PM
What a farking weasel. America really dodged a bullet when this asshole torpedoed his own political career.

2013-12-25 11:00:49 PM
Meh. Sex, money and power tend to go hand in hand. Our society is very Puritanical, though we mostly don't hang Quakers anymore. But we still think that "sexual morality" is a thing to be proud of, rather than the number one way of controlling people. Control who can have sex with whom and under what conditions and they will let you dictate almost anything else.

More than anything this "issue" points to the poisonous atmosphere in this country. We have an article about a former politician and talking head with a younger woman like there is some crime being committed. As long as she wants to be there, who cares? I hope she has fun while it lasts.

And yes I know he was involved in a crime involving consensual relationships with younger but adult women. The only thing that offended me was his hypocrasy. The law isn't a good one except in the eyes of said Puritans and if he'd ignored those cases as AG I'd be singing his praises.

BolloxReader: Our society is very Puritanical

This isn't about puritanism, this is about powerful people exploiting women for sex and a political subculture that includes the likes of Eliot Spitzer where the men - once they've finished giving their speeches about Family Values (R) or the War on Women (D) - expect said women employed in their field to give up the booty if they want their careers to go anywhere.

2013-12-26 09:24:33 AM

BolloxReader: Meh

There is nothing acceptable about having sex with people who work for you.

2013-12-26 09:26:25 AM
The hell with this guy. He could have been President if he could have kept his dick in his pants. You know, I can understand a man leaving his wife. I can understand a man having an affair. As in one. But if you just aren't going to be faithful to your wife, why are you married to her?

Why do you assume I'm right-wing. I do live in New York City, and we have a lot of politicians with trouble keeping it in their pants, like we had a different state senator a few years ago in multiple affairs and so on. Though I can say I am abused by the system, I mean I voted for Carlos Danger at one point, I came to beleive he was a sleezeball and voted against him in 2010 before the scandal broke, but It hard in my district, I mean our congresswoman got mugged in DC a short while back.

I think they're just emphasizing that he's dumping her for a younger woman, which is probably extra humiliating for the wife. Otherwise yea I agree, I wouldn't care about the age difference.

54/2 + 7 = 34 : 34 > 31 :  Rule breakage

Now Spitzer'll spritz her if his dick barely fits her
And if her age makes her a junior:
But Weiner's obscener:
Have you seen his "ball peen", sir?
At any age Weiner'll be doin' her.
You get them together
With gimps clad in leather
And maybe a midget or three --
What might be more jazzy -- oh! --
Invite ole diBlasio
For a three-pol farkfest jamboree!
