Boston farker checking in.  First: Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and a happy Wednesday to others.

These lists frustrate me. Sure, they mention some beer bars that are very good, but what they fail to mention can fill volumes. And while I understand it's all opinion-based, it's easy to see these writers simply have a limited knowledge. The list should be called "Bars I went to in different states that I liked, or that friends from other areas of the country have mentioned to me before."

The prime example: NO MENTION of "Ebenezer's Pub" in Maine. This bar has been on several trade lists as the best beer bar in the USA. And while that, too, is argumentative, there are some good reasons for it. There is a major Belgian brewery that make a special beer solely for them. As a devout beer nerd who has traveled to Belgium, anytime I look at their tap list chances are I have never seen 50% of them anywhere else in the states. And their Chimay Burger is just a damn thing of beauty. Yes, their beers skew a little heavy (almost entirely) toward Belgian styles, but for a bar located off the second hole of a municipal golf course in backwoods Maine it makes them like the baseball field in "Field of Dreams."

Closer to home for me:

Massachusetts:
The Publick House
Deep Ellum
Lord Hobo
Mead Hall

There you have a few bars that I'd rate higher than Bukowski on pretty much any day of the week, twice on Friday nights in the summer.
