And now I'll never watch A&E again.  Not because they let him back, but because this was all a sham for attention.  And it came at the expense of gays, blacks, and everyone who takes the march of civil rights seriously.

It strikes me that this is almost exactly like how Rosa Parks ended racism in America.

Weird - its almost like most TV shows, even "reality" shows, are taped months in advance and require lots of lead time for production and editing. And the homophobic remarks (well, the newest ones anyway), were only publicized after all production was finished on the new season.

/A&E was perfectly clear that the new season was premiering next month, and that he was suspended from future filming.
//No news is so exciting.

During this nonsense I hear someone refer to him as a reality television oddity.

I liked it at first, then decided it was entirely too vague and nonspecific.

Huff Po is a little misleading, the policy didn't change. These were already in the can, so to speak. And hey, when was the last time you watched A&E anyway?

They met their sales targets for Duck Dynasty merchandise, I see.

The funniest part is....I'm willing to bet that Phil Robertson doesn't give one single fark if the show continues or not.  He has said many times that he was happy as could be before the show came along and would continue to be happy long after it ended.  And that he considered the show simply to be another avenue to preach the gospel, even if only in a small way.  If it ends, he'll still be preaching his beliefs, just on a smaller scale (maybe).....

A&E needs this more than the family does....

/don't agree with his beliefs, but also think that there has been WAY to much made of this

2013-12-24 03:14:54 PM
Didn't watch before, won't watch now.  Maybe more people should just stop watching this sort of tripe and it would all go away.

That post is made most funny by how little the black community cares or relates about the plight of homosexuals.

Go into the hood and have a conversation about and mention that gay is the new black and see how fast they turn on you.

I've done it twice, and the response was immediate and negative.

This.

Before this I never watched the show or knew much about these guys or what the show was about. But as this thing has played out and I have read more and more about these guys, I am convinced that their whole show is nothing more than a scripted show and they are nothing more than actors portraying roles. And that this whole controversy was nothing more than a work planned out by A&E and these guys to rile up the derper base and get them to buy all of their products.

Yes, of course I'm aware of that problem.  But the core issues remain, even if some people are misguided.

If I give into resentment then I'm just perpetuating the problem.  People have to be willing to break the cycle and rise above.

Is drydrunk Phil still obsessed with anal sex and male prostitutes?  Unresolved issues with personal demons.  I'd suggest some good gay porn sites for him, but I'm sure he already knows the best ones.

Reality TV in general, and this show in specific.

Why was this a big deal?

2013-12-24 03:34:43 PM
A&E is not a person.  They don't claim to be.  They're not acting as if they are offended personally.   The comments brought undue controversy to the show, and put sponsorship in jeapordy.   That is what upset them.  There is nothing wrong with this...  They are a business, and don't claim to be anything but....

He made some comments that had the potential to mess with their business model, so they suspended him... But in the long run, the same viewers want to still watch the show.   So, they can give him a reprieve. Again, nothing wrong with this.

Anybody who watches a show about a bunch of rednecks is not going to have a problem with what he said.

2013-12-24 03:50:45 PM
Don't forget, on Christmas A&E is having a Duck Dynasty marathon, which your redneck uncle will insist on watching.

Surely this wasn't just a stunt by A&E and Phil to get reactionary rubes worked up, causing a DD merchandise  blitzkrieg a week before Christmas. And they wouldn't do something like this to drum up a shiat ton of free publicity for the new season that starts next month, a few weeks after the most recent season comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray.

You're implying that this is some sort of cash grab? For shame.

^^^. It amazes me how many people didn't understand that.

People that don't even watch the show are outraged.  So, now A&E has pulled a Streisand Effect-like stunt and the show is going to gain MORE viewers.  Congrats, you've done the Social Justice, warriors.

Yeah see even though there's been dozens of articles on Fark about it, I was never able to get that far into any of them. For some reason I kept losing interest by the second or third paragraph.

Good to know A&E is willing to help further divide America for money, like most it seems.

Yeah, A&E totally set all this up. They have the most popular show on cable and are making tons of cash off merchandising. So they decided to gamble and risk their sure fire money maker on some sort of ploy to incrementally increase ratings. You neck beard sleuths are so clever to figure this out.

2013-12-24 05:32:34 PM
As I said in the other 20 threads, this was going to happen - A&E can't afford to lose DD because they know other networks will be all over it like vultures. If you look at their lineup, without DD its a flop cable show, with the cash flow they will not be able to rid DD for good and put better programming out.

/honestly watched one episode of DD, rednecks who over wear camo whose coffee machine broke and forced to go to a starbucks to try espresso who end up on a caffeine high and go nuts. Really this is the story line? retarded shiat rednecks do?

I doubt A&E had anything to do with this.  Old drydrunk Phil's son handles the business affairs and gladly took the money GQ was paying for the interview.  A&E is still obligated to air the already taped episodes.  Check back to see if there is a next season.

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person," Robertson is quoted in GQ. "Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash. We're going across the field.... They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, 'I tell you what: These doggone white people'-not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

Most theories here seem to indicate A&E have been proactive as opposed to reactive. Their position hasn't changed since the interview came out. Dude is suspended but they'll air already produced episodes he's in.

Perhaps this guy is running some sort of scam for better ratings or merchandise sales, but I doubt A&E has any role in it besides trying to keep sponsors.

were they singing "the camptown ladies?"

And I can't picture why a black man in the south in the 1960s might not complain about the way they were treated by white people....can't even begin to imagine it.

And all the little snow flakes cried out in Merica...."But...he said he didn't agree with homosexuality....he's evil" with a tear in their eye...

The rest (the majority) of the country still didn't care what the snowflakes were crying about this week and continued on in the face of such shock.

Get over it morons...he did as all Americans are allowed. He said he believed in his values. You believe in yours and we aren't trying to blackball you. He added that he would never judge or act like they weren't human. You cared not about that. So you tell him "die in a fire" like you think he was saying to gays.....

Farking hypocrites!

When the gays had their fit, Fark was all about "damn right! The people have spoken!". Now that the public has demanded the man be returned to the show, Fark is all  "We knew the plan all along".
