"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians," wrote Bayne in an email to supporters.

And what exactly was Rosa taking a stand against, Ian?

HINT:  You're a moron.

It's actually a pretty bad comparison, when you think about it. I mean, Phil Robertson was poor when he grew up. He had a hard life and had to work on farms. Rosa Parks, she spent all her time singing and happy. It's two different worlds, and the congressman should pick his analogies more carefully. Nobody can really know how Rosa Parks might have handled the sort of hardships that Phil Robertson has endured.

Since when did Rosa Parks become the darling of the gop?  They have invoked her name a number of times in the last few months.

Good one Ninja, you always bring a smile to my face.

Was it Congressman Pete, or his twin brother?

Not just a repeat, but a repeat of something with a "FOLLOWUP" just a few doors down. There's a repeat on the sports page just now of a story immediately below it -- as in "right next to it". I blame holiday staffing. drinking.

This just in: the intolerance of all other religions by Christians = persecution of Christians.

This. And the fact that Rosa Parks was named after the Rose Garden she played in and rode unicorns back and forth through rainbows, until one day her unicorn broke down and she had to ride the bus and the bus driver smelled bad and she had to sit in the back.

You know who else hates Illinois Nazis?

phil robertson literally thinks black people were better off when they knew their place and rosa parks should have sat in the back of the bus

This revisionism is starting to sink in. Like a dream in the back of my mind I almost remember Rosa Parks brave stand for Religious Fundamentalism.

Someone tweeted in to a radio station a few minutes ago something to the effect of:

"Why is talking about having sex with a man's anus vile and offensive, but actually having sex with a man's anus is not offensive?"

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this.  They actually believe condemning and even legally dehumanizing people for what they do with their own bodies in their own homes is somehow their business, and anyone who opposes that is persecuting THEIR freedom (which is more important, of course, because Jesus).

It boils down to this analogy...most people can add and subtract but not everyone can do calculus.  Some lack the capacity.  Likewise, not everyone can think beyond what's right in front of them socially.  The complexities of life are beyond them, so they try to reduce everything to addition and subtraction.  It's wrong and oversimplified, but that's all they can handle.  No amount of education is going to change that.

Phil Robertson is truly a Christian martyr.

Like St. Stephen or St. Andrew.

God I will be glad when the slow news cycles are over so this can be drown out by something else. I

Was Phil strumming the banjo? If so, he might have a point. Ya know, adding to the fun times segregation brought. I mean, if you can do a nice Soft-Shoe with a smile on your face, it's All Good in the Southern Hood. Right?

It would be best if Phil Robertson responded with:  "I don't see what the big deal is with Rosa Parks.  When I was a kid, all the cool kids sat in the back of the bus.  Why does Rosa Parks hate being cool, alive?"

Why are we linking to an article about Bayne's "Rosa Parks" comparison after we've already linked to an article about him back-pedaling from that comment?

I am confused didn't Rosa Parks sit down and if she had stood up wouldn't that have been the typical reaction and not noteworthy.

/how many times is thiis going to be greenlit, or is this someone else comparing him to Rosa Parks

MaudlinMutantMollusk: I'm thinking there's something more to this "persecution"

/perhaps the word "complex"

/or perhaps the word "fantasy," for an unpersecuted American Christian is an unvalidated American Christian.

The suffering they endure by no one caring enough to persecute American Christians is persecution-by-boredom, thus triggering this relentless wailing for attention.  If they don't shut up soon, I'm gonna find an atheist duck hunter to battle Mr. Horatio Duckblower one-on-one.

That is just wrong, why would you want to  have them tie up a bridge like that.
