Heath Ledger's untimely demise demonstrated that dead celebrities are cash cows. It will be this way from here on out.

Might as well, they shouldn't waste how hot he was.

And subby will probably plonk down his money to see this one too, just like all the rest of the stooges. If so many people have trouble with the entertainment industry, how come they keep making more and more money every year? Somebody must be making it worth their time and effort.

/it's definitely not me

He most certainly got an advance on the film and his poor choices could have put the studio at a significant loss if they couldn't produce this film.

The alternative would be to sue his estate for some or all of that money. If there are royalties in his contract, they will get a payday from this.

Exploit my corpse for the benefit of my beneficiaries by any means you can figure out.

They even went as far as to finish the film using a stand-in for scenes that weren't filmed yet.
And of course, there is The Joker.

It happens.  And, if no one has noticed, the promotions for FF6 went through the roof with "collector's editions", of a DVD that would have otherwise been just another DVD.

It's wrong to throw Heath Ledger in this mix with Dark Knight, just based on the fact that all the principal photography was done when he died.  It still would've been a huge success if he hadn't died; Christopher Nolan knows what he's doing.

If you want to use Heath Ledger, you need to talk about the movie he was shooting when he died, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.  We can see how well his death did to put butts in seats with THAT film.

2013-12-24 10:12:31 AM
Is it likely that the type of person who would pay to see 'The Fast and the Furious 7', is also the sort to be sentimental about some B-List actor?

2013-12-24 10:20:41 AM
For those bashing this series (I admit, I never saw one of the movies), F&F6 did $238 MILLION in the US and another $550 MILLION worldwide for a total box office of just over three quarters of a billion dollars.

Given that he (and now, his estate) would earn from additional ticket sales from the franchise, I'm sure he'd be fine with it.

2013-12-24 10:22:21 AM
They did it with John Candy as well.  It seemed to help the release of Canadian Bacon, since he died just before its release.  Even though, he died during the filming on Wagons East.

/ I still wonder if the fight scene in Wagons East was the one scene that went too far.
//He didn't look well at the end of that scene

2013-12-24 10:22:29 AM
You don't scrap a film or TV show for that matter just because an actor has died.  It's not corpse raping either to proceed with footage already in hand.  Some would consider it honorable to even give a "in loving memory" type credit as well.

That said, exploiting it as "Paul Walkers last film!" or promoting the previous films DVD as a collector edition are all reprehensible.

Thing is, now that the film timelines should be back in line to Tokyo Drift...it could be a very easy to write his death into the movie as well as create an opening for Chaning Tatum to slide into the token white boy side kick.

2013-12-24 10:27:47 AM
I have a great idea how they can write him out of the series....

This.  These movies going to sell tickets no matter who's in them, but if they toss whatever they've already shot, they end up with higher production costs and less profit.  I doubt there was much conversation about Walker at all - the studio's biggest concern was how to avoid losing all the money they'd already put into this.

It is car porn.  You see the gorgeous and beautiful muscle cars with all the amazing after-market modifications in great detail, including watching them do (often physically impossible) stunts and explode.

It is not really my thing, and they could stand to have actual plot, but so it goes.

Well you see, it's simple really. Git is like svn, but with vastly different implementations and philosophies.  So, you could also say svn up if your code was being hosted in an svn repo.  See, now it all makes sense.

I never attempted to make you care.  I couldn't understand why there were even 2-7 movies in existence, you likened it to car porn, which made some sense.  I stated I don't pay for my porn, which explains why I never paid for movies 2-6.  But I suppose I can see why others might pay now.  Caring is still optional.

You just gave me a great, great idea for a screenplay.

A desperate film producer sinks all his money into a movie, praying for a home run.  The movie stinks and is going to bomb.  So the producer tries increasingly amusing ways of killing the star of the movie before the release date, guaranteeing a hit.  First he plys him with massive amounts of booze and drugs, he tries to stage a car accident, he hires a bumbling hit man ...

Make it a dark comedy a la A Fish Called Wanda.  If it ever gets made I promise I will credit "cgraves67" in tiny letters at the very end of the credits.

I had no idea it was considered disrespectful to show a non-living person in a movie. I'm going to contact Netflix right away so they can delete the 41,365,249 offending titles from their database immediately.

We must immediately storm forth in anger at the makers of the James Bond movie Skyfall.  They put a guy who looked like the original Q into the background

That reminds me of an MTV movie from back in the 90's where 2 college students realize they will flunk, but also that they can get a free pass if their roommate commits suicide. so they go through the efforts of finding a suicidal and/or fatalistic roommate to die for them. It ends with one of them fake attempting suicide and they both get their free pass. Yay, moral of the story.
