Meh. I've been with AT&T forever. They were Southwestern Bell Wireless when I started with them back in '98 or so.

I have no complaints. They aren't the cheapest but they have decent coverage where I need to go. The times I've called customer service I've been pleasantly surprised with how courteous and capable they were. When I got my iPhone 5S I stuck with them and have been very pleased with their 4G LTE speeds.

Your mileage may vary. I'm a satisfied customer.

This should bring in a bunch of ihaters talking about how great their s4 is.

I loved how Black Friday they were giving them away just to sign a contract.

I wish they'd get released a little less often, its always my oldest daughter that starts the upgrade cries and soon enough everyone absolutely needs the latest model even if they're like my middle daughter who only uses it to text her friends or my son who could probably get away with a wireless tablet to play those stupid games on when he's not sitting in front of the xbox or watching that infernal pony cartoon.  If I hold my ground my wife will get on my case about how they won't fit in with their peers, I can only last so long and then we all go as a family to pick our new iphones from ioptions at the istore for idon'tknowhowmuchanymore and I have to get one so I can show them how to do the new stuff.  Friggin technology, every year another minutely better model and I can't just give one to the kid who graduated or got above average grades, oh no all of them have to celebrate the college milestones together.

akula Same here, except Verizon (Airtouch, not long after it was PacTel).

I look around every time we come up for renewal, and Verizon just works for us. Droid Maxx is a great device, and we lucked into the late September renewal glitch and still have unlimited data.

/but Verizon is the debil!

Yep, works for me.

Doesn't hurt that the company pays my bill but the service is fine.

My wife has Verizon on her iPhone and when she can't get service, I can. And when I can't, she does. No one has a monopoly on suck or perfection.

Meh, still better than Sprint and T-Mobile, at least around here. And Verizon costs too much and they restrict what devices you can use (e.g., no Nexus 5).

meh.  I recently switched to the iPhone 5s mainly because my HTC was dying almost exactly on the two years mark, which is a pretty impressive engineering feat of planned obsolescence.  Too bad for HTC the phone sucked enough that I wasn't upgrading to another HTC.

2013-12-24 01:45:44 PM
The only reason I upgraded to 4S was that I lost the iPhone 3 I had for a few years. I'm not gonna upgrade to 5S. What's the point? Also I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and a company discount on the monthly service so SCORE!

I switched to Verizon for their LTE coverage. Which is great... when it works. I'm hoping T-Mobile gets their act together before I need a new phone, their international plan is perfect.

Me and a co worker debate iPhone vs android on a regular basis. She touts the congress of her iPhone and I counter with the geeky tricks you can do with android. At the end of it all we always agree on one thing: at least we don't have BlackBerrys/to all their own//ios and android are both great platforms.

AT&T service is good, but their prices are stupid expensive for service right now. Their shared data plans in particular are worse than even Verizon's, who used to be the most expensive for service.

I've been with them for a couple years and have been very happy, but I probably only use 300MB of data a month. Tons of texting, though. Hard to beat for $50/month, though their customer service is...'thin'.

If Sprint is OK where you are, do Virgin Mobile and live on wifi.  The tax on a major carrier plan vs. sales tax on prepaid is huge too.  My virgin mobile bill is still $28 total, with tax.  I can't get a pager with unlimited texts for that price through Verizon or ATT.

I have been thinking about getting a phone for years but never do.
All I want it for is texting and checking Twitter.  So I cannot over pay.
Do not know if I should get a pre paid phone or a plan
I dont know whats better for my cost and usage

I have T-Mobile service. Once I figured out how much less I'll be paying v.  AT&T or VZ, the choice was clear. Everybody says "Oh but the service sucks!", maybe the coverage is less than with them, truthfully I haven't noticed a difference. If I can receive/make calls, texts, emails everywhere I go, why would I pay extra?

Don't know about twitter solutions other then a shotgun to the mouth but for a basic no frills texting solution I have a rogers pay-as-you-go phone, I put a $100 on it yearly and last year only managed to use $60 of that so now I have $140 for the next year's usage.  I don't like Rogers or Bell but in the choice of douchebag or shiatsandwich that pay as you go fits my needs best.

I use Twitter to keep in touch with world news and a few friends. I don't use it to gossip about Justin Bieber.

While I do appreciate the advice, "Sprint" is the stuff of myth and legend where I am.

i just tested the speed with the FCC's app.

29 Mb/sec downloads, and 19 Mb/sec uploads.

Likewise in the southeast. Good speed, very reliable, and - unlike Verizon - no billing "errors"

That one is a combination of Verizon screwing up the Gnex and Google saying no with the N5.

My thoughts exactly. Tmo sucks here so I went with Sprint. When all is said and done, I pay about $50 per line so I am pretty happy.

I am lucky enough that Sprint didn't actually do the upgrades in the direct area (Philly to Harrisburg to Baltimore triangle) so they were done fast and efficiently. LTE here is better than Verizon/Att.

Someone got me a smartphone as a present (HTC Evo V / 3D).  It does everything great... except making phone calls.
I make more phone calls on my computer using Google Voice than I do on my phone.

I use a "clamshell"-style Tracfone that's about at the same level of technology. Works well, costs me about $7/month...

/ I wouldn't mind a smartphone, but I'm too poor to let $100/month go towards something I don't REALLY want or need...
// iPhone app that shows you what planets & star constellations you are looking at during the night is pretty cool; maybe someday....
