spawn73: Does Spam count as sausage? It's basicly the same I'd say.

i think it counts as a type of sausage

tiamet4: NateAsbestos: Good sausage is better than any bacon, this is objective fact.

Agreed.

I like bacon but I never got the obsession.  Sausage is more varied and just as versatile and if I have a choice I'll always have sausage with breakfast over bacon.

\ considering using the waffle maker I got for Christmas to make sausage waffles tomorrow
\\  mmmm......sausage waffles...

sounds interesting...
now, would these be waffles with bits of sausage in them?
or giant sausage patties cooked in the waffle iron, thereby having the shape/dimples of a waffle?
either way sounds good

Sausage is good, yes.

But it will never surpass the taste enhancing qualities of bacon. Nothing goes as well with sausages as bacon goes with so many things.

What kind of sausage are we talking about here? If it was something like a good chorizo or andouille, I could see it. But breakfast sausage? No way.

HeartBurnKid: JohnnyRebel88: IlGreven: crab66: JohnnyRebel88: Bacon has become a hipster bandwagon item.

I hate hipsters as much as the next guy. But these words have no meaning.

Just like bacon has no meaning now that it goes on everything.

Bacon ice cream, cupcakes, beer, an other such crap...  However that sausage wrapped in bacon looks awesome above.  It's just soooo cool to like bacon now, no matter what it's put on.  I don't get it.  Has Goya or Jones made a bacon flavored soda yet?

Hey.  I've made homemade bacon maple ice cream, and it was incredible.

However, I've also tried bacon soda, and it was... not.  General rule, stay away from beverages and anything with "artificial bacon flavor".

I shouldn't judge before trying it, but it sounds so disgusting that I am just turned off by the idea.  I was watching a cooking show where they made the cupcakes, and if there is one thing I enjoy it's the great sweetness of the icing. And always like breakfast sausage more than bacon.

What is the best bacon dish that isn't straight bacon?  I like whiskey straight out of the bottle, and bacon right off the pig.

but If sausage is the new bacon, how can there be bacon sausage?

Oldiron_79: nocturnal001: twistedmetal: I don't know what that exec is putting in his coffee, but sausage will never surpass bacon in awesome goodness.

Sausage has the benefit of more flavor options. I'd say it would be a draw except that bacon does wonders for sandwiches where sausage can't tread.

I think we can all agree that Pigs are the world's most amazing animal.

Pigs are magical, they can eat garbage like apple cores and potatoe peels and turn it into BACON, that is Alchemy on par with turning lead into gold.

and sausage, and the best kind of ribs, and pork shoulder, and porkrinds/chicharonnes!

wiseolddude: Jimmy Dean's sage sausage is very good.

I agree 100%. Very good with pancakes and syrup. (Real 100% maple syrup, none of that corn syrup crap.)

neofonz: Try making homemade bacon and sausage sometime.
It's not hard to do and the final result is FAR FAR superior to what you get in the store.

/ just finished making a batch of homemade bacon (20 lbs or so) for Christmas presents.

I've never done my own bacon, but I've been making my own sausage for years now.  I may try bacon someday, but I just don't think I could top Benton's.

Never had Benton's, but don't be too sure on "topping it"... I have yet to find a commercially made bacon that tops what I can make at home. Not to mention the last batch I made only cost about $3.00 a pound to make.

Bacon's way easier to make than sausage, but it takes more time to do it (takes about 10 days start to finish). This is why I tend to make it in larger batches, because it freezes well. Not to mention its easier to buy pork belly in larger amounts.

I love bacon. I despise breakfast sausage. What a load of nonsense.

Sausage may take off, but it's not going to be on the Dunkin Donuts menu.  It'll be artisan sausages at your local butcher shop.  And I'm ok with that.  I'm tired of having only having 3 sausage options at the store: bratwurst, polish, and breakfast.  There are better sausages out there and I'm prepared to cook and eat them.

Sounds like you need a better store.

On another note, these are heavenly.

I still think something like Pastrami should be the new Bacon.  For example, I would no consider drinking bacon-flavored beer, but if I were in Chicago, I'd at least try this:
