The ones who weren't already disconnected loners and losers, you mean.

I love the new commercial Apple ran yesterday during football.  This lonely kid sits around the entire Christmas holiday moping on his iPhone while his relatives enjoy themselves.  It turns out he was spending all his time putting together a video of the family enjoying themselves.  Everybody gets all teary at the end and were all like "Dude, you should have been there!"

I think it gave me a concussion the first time I saw it.

Apple users do it to themselves.

Apple fan boys were losers to start with, so it's just making them disconnected.

From what I can determine there's a group of people who really loathe Apple users, and then Apple users who really don't give a crap.

Nope, it's the company to blame specifically. Before Apple there was never video games, TV, books, porn, beer, drugs or anything else detached people did by themselves. Thanks, Apple.

It's Apple's fault for making Siri such a lovable companion.

I dont need a phone to be a loner.

And it was revolutionary when they did. The rounded rectangles in my porn made it better than it ever was before.

I'm actually really interested in Ubuntu for the phone, but it's still pretty early for that OS & I'm not uber-nerdy. I just happen to dabble in Linux.

Yes because me using technology to talk with people and to communicate with the 10x more friends then I could without it means, I hate interacting with people.

People probably said the telephone made people "talk with machines" too, and it's just as stupid.

It's seems fun for people to blame things on Apple that is the same for all smartphone companies for some reason.

Right all Apple does is round the corners. That's why Google completely redesigned their smart phone when the iPhone 1 came out was because of the rounded corners.

i have a group of friends and, sometimes, everyone would end up sitting in the same room, each browsing/surfing/sexting/whatevering on their iWhatevers (or Androiwhatevers).

then i made everyone download Spaceteam.  essentially, it's a local multiplayer-only game that encourages equal parts cooperation, and yelling at each other frantically.  it's also free, and cross-platform.

so now, once the group gets to a certain critical mass of people doing "personal data time", the rest pull out our gadgets (giggidy) and start a Spaceteam game.  and suddenly, we're all being social again.  :)

They argued hard and long in court to make that very point. Everything is because they did it first. Remember that or they will sue.

You're aware that Google, Samsung and other companies also sue Apple just as much over patents. But I guess those don't count right?

That is really sad. A room full of people unable to interact without technology guiding them in some way.

1. They're acting like Apple's the only device out there, and that Samsung and Android aren't currently beating the snot out of Apple in terms of numbers and market penetration.

2. I do feel sorry for the younger generations who are so damned attached to their smartphones all the time. They're missing out on some of the better things in life, and they're going to have some really shiatty marriages and tenuous relationships as a result of it.

3. Numbers make you pay more attention.

Soon to be followed be a video of him torturing kittens.  Then his "iManifesto".  Then his family saying "he was such a quiet kid.  I never would have thought..." after him shooting up a "gun-free zone"

I often see families in restaurants sitting together in complete silence.  Parents swiping their fingers across smartphones, kids with iPads, sometimes the lone person (usually another kid) with a book.  All sullenly ignoring each other while they have a lovely dinner.

Something tells me the symptoms of this problem are exacerbated by iProducts, and that the products are not necessarily the actual cause.  But that wouldn't have made for good clickbait, I guess.

I don't even own an apple product.

i remember in college (which predated smartphones) a professor was giving a lecture on how with technology, we were losing a sense of community.... Basically, back in the 50's, neighbors would hang out on the front porch, sip lemonade, and shoot the shiat.    With the internet, direct TV, and so forth, people were merging into a different reality, forgoing all that interpersonal interaction...    I thought the lecture was heavy-handed and overblown, but in reality, it was not even coming close to the severity of the situaiton.

No, because Apple patented the process.

I don't bother not owning Apple products anymore.
Everybody doesn't own Apple products.
Nowadays, I don't own an obscure Lithuanian smartphone called Smegva - you've probably never heard of it.

Yes, let's blame technology.

This is as stupid as blaming guns for the people who pull the triggers

Red delicious are kinda bland but Fuji are pretty sweet.  New varieties are coming out all the time.  Try some.

Fark you and your "10 minutes in the future", stupid article writer.

2013-12-24 08:27:26 AM
Gee, I remember an article in Newsweek or Time or something from about 30 years ago saying that the Walkman will do the same thing.

And yet we still found a way to get together, procreate, and squeeze out the next generation of soulless loners.

Most will grow out of it. The ones who don't will become tomorrow's generation of serial killers and basement dwellers.

About as stupid as people texting when there's a real person to talk to right in front of them.

I document my life so I can re-live the cool stuff years later.

A few good pictures here and there are plenty.  Takes just a minute or two.

Many years later, the pictures dispell the myths and keep reality as it really was, no better or worse.

Totally worth doing.
