I'm not really talking about being a Republican. I'm talking about being someone who believes that merely the act of being alive is enough to piss off a deity and go through life convinced that you need to look to Jesus to save you from...his dad.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious. Sexual immorality, is number one on the list

I'm pretty sure that number one on God's sin list is "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.".  Which makes worshiping Jesus as your only savior the number one sin you can commit.

Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason. They left their fathers and mothers and be united to become one flesh, that's what marriage is all about.

Gee. It seems very odd that a guy who's supposed to have a master's degree and does all this preacherizing doesn't have the slightest clue as to the origins of two of the most well-known biblical people.

I asked the local evangelicals about that and they fudge and mention a letter from Paul to the romans. That's pretty much the only thing in the new testament that walks close to the whole gay thing...and personally Paul sounds like he was that dorky guy who never ever got laid and was forever bitter about it, but thats just like, my opinion man.

I thought Jesus himself said the only real commandment was to "love each other as I love you".
I could be mistaken, but that's really the only commandment one needs.

I love the hyperbolic headlines that Fark has, but this is stretching it a lot. He doesn't mention Hitler at all, or at least the article linked doesn't mention him ever uttering any such thing.

To be fair, Lilith was added much later in aprocryphal writings by Talmudic scholars.

It was an accurate paraphrase of Matthew 19:4-6, where Jesus describes marriage as between a man and a woman.

I'm gonna just come right out and say it...I think this whole thing is a marketing ploy to boost ratings and sell more merchandise. The network had to have known the views of a bunch of rednecks, they aren't stupid. They knew this sort of backlash was likely to happen at some point. Only thing I can figure is that the network is gonna suck the marrow out of this whole redneck thing and then move on.

So if aids is a sign that god hates gays, is the bird flu a sign that god hates duck hunters?

It is convenient that we have a 2,000 year old set of books, the gospels and the letters of the Apostles, written decades to hundreds of years post-hoc to blame our feelings on.  "I don't hate gay people, but God says..." "I don't hate this group, but God says..." all come up as convenient excuses.  All in the name of loving and following Jesus, conveniently forgetting that Jesus had very little to nothing to say about gays, marriage, and whatnot and yet admonished against seeking out material wealth (Papa Robertson just happens to be a multi-millionaire and good for him).

At least this Robertson fella comes out and says it, even if he has to blame God for his feelings.

Carefully-construed plot or bungling sales miracle, between DD and Chick-Fil-A, this one is going into the playbook for every ad/marketing exec for dealing with a "Christian" company or celebrity.  And right in time for Christmas, too!

Those were my exact thoughts.  Plus it was just in time for the Christmas season.  This whole episode assures a complete sell-though of all their merchandise.

Have you never read Matthew 19? Because Jesus didn't actually say that. Because what he said was that when a man and a woman are joined together in marriage, they become as one flesh and no law of man can rend them asunder in divorce (except in cases of sexual immorality).

Note that the specific example Jesus used was applicable only on the issue of divorce and does not say a thing about the gays, nor does the example particularly pertain gays themselves. The bit is about divorce.

Yes. And it's also funny how Genesis makes no mention of Adam's and Eve's "fathers and mothers," as alleged in the...ahem..."accurate" paraphrase cited above.

He is the stereotype of a redneck from a small town in the deep South. Why is everyone so shocked at this? I am more aghast that people are aghast.

Is it because it's a slow news day that the news has latched onto this and won't let go like a rabid pit bull? Is it because what's happening in places like Syria is too complicated for the news cycles to sell to the public? Are we talking about low hanging fruit here? How sad is that?
