A Cave Geek: So, I understand the biological differences between alligators and crocs...is there a behavioral difference? Or is it kinda like the "Black bear to brown bear" comparison?
Bslim: "How can you tell you're looking at a crocodile not an alligator?"I don't think it really matters.
KidneyStone: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: A Cave Geek: So, I understand the biological differences between alligators and crocs...is there a behavioral difference? Or is it kinda like the "Black bear to brown bear" comparison?Crocs are typically more agressive than the FL alligator. You don't really have to worry about gators too much, we swim with them all the time. But I'd get out if the water in a hurry if I knew a croc was there. Not this species/class/whatever you call it. This species is not as aggressive as gators in FL. Other species, oh yeah, scary.
A Cave Geek: .is there a behavioral difference?
cgraves67: Can't they read the sign? Alligators only!
adamatari: Surprisingly, from the article they sound about as dangerous or possibly less than the American alligator. People DO get killed by alligators in FL, and they aren't that shy. So sounds like a tossup.I have a feeling the "big enough to eat you" part is more important.Honestly, alligators are incredibly common and people have learned to deal with it, sounds like mostly more of the same except you have to put up with them more because they're threatened. So you might end up with a BIG one in your neighborhood while with an alligator you call in someone to trap it if it gets big and scary looking.
StrikitRich: The fact that these crocs are endangered will not sit well with 'our friends' from the Tri-State area. I expect a lot of belly aching from these fine folks.
mdeesnuts: I thought gentrification was a good thing?/note to South Floridians; you live in a swamp, deal with it
Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Eh, the Everglades are swampy. The rest of South Florida is mostly pine scrub.
