Because nothing gets a girl hot like some geek flaunting his new iToy.

/throw in a laser and I'm in .

Meh. The technology is a path to the future, but this first iteration of the Galaxy Gear watch is horrible.

it's needs to have that flexible screen thing and be flatish nobody wants a jewelry box sitting on their wrist.

Her name is Aimee. Run.

I never suspected current/future tech would be akin to anti-Viagra. But there we go, we found a working example.

Maybe the idea is to trash watches so skillfully that the pebble and iwatch are doomed to fail just so samsung can "own" a market nobody else wants.

...or the best, being that every site s talking about it now.

This is the fourth or fifth website I've seen this advert reported on in the last few days, so I'd say from that point of view it's a massive win for Samsung.

I remember seeing watch-phones at EPCOT like 20 years ago. Now I realize this thing has a shiatton more functions than that  but there's a reason why the EPCOT phone didn't take off. That reason would be that no matter how much functionality it has, unless you're Dick Tracy and it's 1945, you still look like an asshole talking into your watch.

I got to the "OH HEY, JACK" and had to close it. HE'S BEEN FOLLOWING YOU THE ENTIRE TIME SNAPPING PICTURES, HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW HE WAS THERE?

Douchebag hipsters stalking some chick. Creepy and cheesy as fark.

2013-12-23 12:30:45 PM
That was terrible.  Really, really bad.  Almost offensively so.  It was so incredibly awful, in fact, that it could almost have been one of Microsoft's best ads of all time.  It was THAT bad.

All that other guy needed was some Axe body spray and Aimee would have been all over him.

/Wasn't Aimee the name of the killer robot in that Mars movie with Carrie Ann Moss?

Having folks mock your ads and product is hardly a "massive win." Or are you one of those "The ladies are talking about me poopin' my pants in the cafeteria so I'm in their thoughts. Now I just have to seal the deal and they'll kneel for the meal" dudes?

I can say with absolute certainty that poor advertising would never put me off buying a product, however talking about it repeatedly, as we are now, would make me more aware of that product/brand.

Somebody somewhere got paid a buttload of money to kick back, eat and drink, and go snowboarding on Samsung's dime to produce that crap.

/and taking pictures of somebody surreptitiously is always creepy as f*ck.

Is this device HIPAA-compliant?

A watch with less battery life than a cellphone that requires a "caddy" to recharge, and isn't waterproof?
For $300, it is a pretty shiatty purchase. Just get a Pebble or Metawatch instead.

2013-12-23 02:48:18 PM
Well it's worse than the Microsoft Surface ads, so if it isn't the worst, it's close.

2013-12-23 03:03:30 PM
I think it was supposed to be bad and they actually failed at that. I'm not sure. It's not as bad as the 1.9 megapixel camera on this POS.

2013-12-23 03:19:06 PM
meh.  for some reason this feels like most of the tech ads i see.  none of them really sell me on their idyllic examples of what something is used for.  but i will give uproxx credit for adding the mad men clip, particularly when i never give uproxx credit for anything.

2013-12-23 06:05:37 PM
i'm not sure whats supposed to be so bad about it... i mean, the product sucks, but the commercial itself makes it seems like its relatively worthwhile, which is what an ad is supposed to do..

The only watches that will stick around, are the mechanical ones. People talking into their phones is bad enough, we don't need people looking like Dick Tracy. This whole smart watch thing amazes me. How can Apple or Samsung think this is a good idea? It was stupid 20 years ago when you could get a TV watch and it's even more stupid now.
I don't wear a watch because I have a phone, and that worked out perfectly.

That guy should never be allowed to act again. Ever.

OMG I am still using a normal cell phone/camera/camcorder/voice recorder/voice caller/calculator/radio station/MP3 player/blue tooth/stereo controlling/movie player/video catalog/fap maker/Internet accessing pile of crap and not some other tiny pile of crap on my arm that in no way works as easily / good as / like the commercial says it does?!?!?

!?!?!?!

The hell people, why have I not been tarred and feathered, then publicly flogged by the techno geek police or some bunch of %U^&%^*&*()s?

/oh, because I'd knock the hell out of them and leave them in a pile with pop-knots all over the tops of their heads.... ok, got it.

Samsung ad exec1 to Samsung ad exec2:  "Lookit all the unsuspecting morans we got to watch our full length ad and talk about it."
Samsung ad exec2, gleefully rubbing his claws together: "yessssss!!! And how many of the basement dwelling techno geeks will want to run out and get the "Dick Tracy watch, secretly thinking it will help them get lucky!"
Both ad execs cackle joylessly as Samsung rakes in buckets o cash...

As a woman i would say that he was very creepy.

I agree with you, but remember when tablets were stupid 25 years ago? Sometimes people just want to buy the "new" thing because it's what's being sold to them.

2013-12-24 12:36:51 AM
Are we watching it?

It's not the worst then.

Yeah, I skipped around and couldn't finish it but I imagine that the last scene is the bro setting the watch on his night stand to covertly record her naked.
