I read the headline as "scruffy hot Chilean Murphy" I don't know what that would mean, and the article didn't clarify.

So instead of enjoying Captain Jack, Willy Wonka and the Mad hatter's antics I should take them seriously?

Depp is a chameleon who has a good time doing what he does. Taking him "seriously" isn't an issue.

I think Depp should do a movie with Tim Burton directing.  That would be so refreshing.

I got tired of Cillian Murphy after seeing him play Scarecrow. Cillian isn't worthy to shine Depp's shoes.
He makes Jonah Hill seem a polished thespian in comparison.

Book Helena Bonham Carter and I'm there.

Like Bogey and Bacall, or Hannibal from the ATeam and Audrey Hepburn

I liked him in The Rum Diary, but even that he played kinda campy.  It was good but still had that Depp undercurrent of humor.  It felt like he was doing Hunter Thompson from Fear and Loathing (which I should watch again).

I actually finally got to see the Lone Ranger over the weekend...

It wasn't a bad movie and I didn't think Depp did a bad job at all with the Tanto character.

The wife and I actually paid to see The Lone Ranger in the theater. I didn't hate it, and the train sequence at the end was actually pretty good. Had the entire movie been more of that kind of action, it would have been much, much better. Instead, they spent most of the movie on a boring, uninteresting origin story because apparently the kids really want to know every last detail of the Lone Ranger's origin.

Depp was textbook Depp, and I can see where that would start to get old for some people.

That's a spot-on review of the movie.

The train sequence was great. The origin story crap was a little slow. My biggest complaint was that it showed a genocide of a Native American tribe at the hands of rogue or misguided American troops. I'm not saying it's inaccurate, but it felt weird and depressing in the middle of a "turn off the brain" action movie.

My biggest problem with that film is the basic premise dooms the crew. The large fissile store that will be LAUNCHED at the sun is the SHIELD that protects the craft from the sun... anyone else see the inherent flaw in this set up?

Which is the first positive thing ever said about that movie.

I watched it and after it was over I said "They all had to agree just for the free vacation"

Why Depp and Jolie would star in this campy movie that actually took itself too seriously, I'll never know!
(other than the free vacation I mean)

Tanto is the Italian American Indian. Unlike Tonto, Tanto wears a big Gabagool on his head and subcontracts his sidekick work out to his cousint's excavation company.

The crew makes it very clear in the movie that it doesn't matter what happens to them when compared to the survival of the entire human race.  They're expendable, it's the payload that's important.

Also, radio signals near the sun wouldn't have an issue, and certainly not to the degree that they're in total blackout.  But my god that movie is beautiful and has an amazing soundtrack.  The captain's death scene was magnificent.  The commentary track on the DVD by a scientist was also very well done.

Cillian Murphy lost his faith after Sunshine. I guess hanging out with Brian Cox and learning all that physics convinced him that atheism makes more sense than GodDidIt.
