I got compassion and understanding when I was six, but I traded it for some Star Wars trading cards and a superball.

In 2001, my husband bought me a GPS and giant box of dollar-store tchotchkes so I could go Geocaching.  I think the site had only been live for about a year or so at that point.

It wasn't just that it was a cool present but he's usually pretty bad with gifts.  I'd mentioned Geocaching in passing once sometime in the summer and he remembered.  THAT was the coolest part.

I'm trying to justify getting a DS so that I can play "A Link Between Worlds."

New babby makes that kind of a low-priority item. =/

Now I know why.  Thanks, Dad.

Nice. I remember when I reached the age that I realized going to yard sales with my mom was a really good idea because I could buy used toys and really stretch my allowance. I got one of those for like a dollar, and it worked great. I ended up using paper clips to make all sorts of things for it to pick up.

I was in the senior year of high school.  My father was travelling in the Middle East, and was kidnapped by Islamic extremists in early December of that year.  Mom and I were not sure whether he would be released ever, let alone by Christmas.  Sadly, Christmas came and went and he wasn't released.  I was distraught, as I really love my Dad and missed him terribly.  My girlfriend at the time, in order to cheer me up, let me do anal on her.

Best.  Gift.  Ever.

wow!!
I thought I was the only one who ever had one of these!! I remember playing with it all Christmas day and had to replace the batteries many times.
Sadly nothing ever achieved this level of Christmas excellence, in my opinion.

I lost my original one shortly after he broke from so much use.  I however have an almost perfect one in the box somewhere and a second one that was jacked up when I got it.  Sadly that second one is in pieces because I wanted to have it repainted.  So I gave it to a talented painter friend.  The paint job was great, but he never did figure out how to put it back together, lol.

Not to compare but after a few days of my dog barely moving, not eating, and peeing out his butthole led to a trip to the vet at HUP. He was dying (failed liver or kidney or something) but it had been snowing all day and I opened the window and he loved it and I was glad he got to enjoy himself for the last time before I had to put him down.
