(Daily Mail)   The world takes a collective gasp as it learns that some of the royals visiting Queen Elizabeth over the holidays have to stay IN SERVANTS' QUARTERS. Break out the smelling salts   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 59

Though sprawling by most's measures, the Sandringham estate will still struggle to house all 30 guests

Oh, yeah, from the looks of things you're gonna have to just pack them in.

You are forgetting a proper English home has three formal dinning rooms, two sitting rooms, two coat rooms, a smoking room, a retiring room, a fainting room, a powdering room, a drunkard room, a study, a study to study the study, a room off of the kitchen that is still technically the kitchen but it's own separate room in reality, a room with a giant globe with an 'X' on all the nations England has invaded, a room to watch Downton Abbey in, plus that room no one ever speaks of because they are too British to speak of the shame.

Why, two people may even have to share a bathroom!

But where are the servants supposed to stay?  Do they just get thrown out?  Do they move to the stables and the horses have to go out to pasture?  What about the little people??

How many Royals does it take to change a lightbulb?

But without servants who will bring them their figgy pudding?

A bit of the old upstairs/downstairs, eh?

30 guests, plus the Queen, plus the 40 or so servants/cooks/etc.
figure 80 people in total (numbers pulled directly from my ass)

Packed like sardines, they are! And like sardines, they may prove a valuable source of protein for the rest of us one day.

I doubt they pull out the air mattresses and sleeper sofas like everybody else in the world.

The servants' quarters are probably nicer than my house

Smelling salts? I suggest we go straight for bath salts.

So, just tossed the empties out the window then?
When you left , the lawn must have looked like the parking lot of Stones concert in '76.

I'm flabbergasted.

I would have thought all the royals on Earth could fit in one 20 room motel.

There's almost nothing those idiots could do to cause me to care.

Except maybe lesbian incest featuring Kate and Pippa that included a strap-on. And some peanut oil.

Will we get to find out what happens when royals stop being nice and start getting real?

They could come over here and stay in one of the Norwegian royal residences...

You know, it's not as if the servants quarters would even be that bad or uncomfortable. I can't find any pictures of the servant's quarters in Sandringham, but this is what a servant's quarter looks like on Elizabeth II's personal train.

s3.amazonaws.com

That doesn't look bad at all, and remember, this is on a train. The one in a royal residence would be way nicer.

If you can squeeze them into a fine enough paste I am sure it is possible.

They'll attend St Mary Magdalene, the church on the estate.

But unlike a Tea Party Christmas, they won't have a speaker from Stormfront come to speak at the church in the compound.

Without even reading TFA, I already know that the servant's quarters are almost certainly about the same as your average 4 star hotel.

Are you two seriously suggesting that Her Majesty's horses might be ejected from their rightful accommodation in the royal stables, just to make room for servants?

I don't know what kind of radical socialist loopy juice you fellows are drinking, but it's clearly sent you both totally marxist.

There's always the Super 8 down the road.  Especially if your aunt and uncle can't sleep in the same room because he snores and gets up to pee a lot and heaven forbid you put up with it for one whole night.

Haha, no.  There are lofts in the stables where the servants may lie and eat cake.

Well, sounds like as good a reason as any to do away with this whole "Royal" farce.

Aren't some of the Queen's higher-ranking servants drawn from the nobility? Like the guy who ceremonially cleans out the shiatter,..however that works.

/Don't bother explaining: my care-o-meter is stuck between 'post once' and 'respond'.
