From what I read in the story, sounds like no intervention from authorities was required -it was handled by the kids with greater maturity than adults.

I note a distinct lack of a terrible rap song, therefore I am confused as to what to do.

That's some mighty fine police work there, Lou.

Downright gentlemanly behaviour, and dashed sportsmanlike  if you ask me. (how unamerican!)

They're minors.  I think there are laws against showing them, even in criminal activity, without consent.

They had a minor physical fight and shook hands afterwards? This should be detention for both kids, not a suspension, criminal charge or other foolishness unless TFA is leaving something really important out.

I wonder why school violence has escalated so much in severity. We hear of stabbings, (real) beatings (the kind that cause brain damage), shootings, etc. on an all-too-regular basis. It's as if kids have lost any sense of proportionality of response. If only there were an explicitly non-proportional policy to force schools to provide a good example in this regard.

I demand a zero tolerance policy against zero tolerance policies!

I kicked a kid right in the jaw once for harassing my little brother,  I got right in there with the front of my shoe like I was trying to kick a ball to the moon.  He didn't bug my brother anymore after that.

/He was on his knees being a jackass at the time
/Bang, zoom!

Actually the problem is using half measures. If you use enough violence, early on, then the problems find a softer target.

I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without violence, a world without hate.
And I can picture us easily conquering that world because they'd never expect it.

YORK - An 11-year-old student at York Intermediate School has been charged with assault and battery after a fight on a school bus earlier this month, according to a York Police report.
Police and school staff reviewed school bus video of the Dec. 11 incident where the 11-year-old student was seen striking another 11-year-old student twice in the head and neck.
According to the report, the 11-year-old assailant tried several times to get the victim to hit him. Two other boys, both 12 years old, also tried to get the victim to hit the 11-year-old boy.
When the victim refused, the 11-year-old boy struck him twice. Afterward, the 11-year-old boy and the two 12-year-old boys are seen shaking hands with each other and later shake hands with the victim.
The 11-year-old suspect told police he hit the victim because the victim has been picking on his little brother. The two 12-year-old boys will be punished by school staff, according to the report.

Or cease being problems altogether.

Hit first, hit hard, and you might just solve the problem.

This sort of shiat has been going on for far too long (kids being punished for fighting back against bullies) When i was in high school in the early 90's i was attacked by two other girls in the locker area. I took a swing (that missed) in an attempt to defend myself and was given in-school suspension in the same room as the other two, and for the same amount of time. There's no such thing as justice when it comes to schools...

Because of lawsuits, the districts can't really determine context for some things, that's why zero tolerance exists. It's stupid. And it's farking dangerous when you have kids saving the lives of other kids by giving a fellow asthmatic their inhaler...and they get expelled for 'drugs' and their school record is noted that they have been expelled for drug offences.

And if you google 'girl expelled for sharing inhaler' you will see...this has happened more than once.

This is clearly an open/shut case with no room for interpretation or ambiguity.

I would almost fully agree with you, if it really came to that.  However, did the little bro or older bro take the matter to the adults first?  If not, then they did not handle it right.

If the school wants to be sticklers, then there's this anti-bullying movement that's sweeping the country, holding schools and administrators accountable....

Yes sir!  Give that man a cigar!  (well, that's probably politically incorrect as well)

This used to be called "giving a bully a lesson in manners."  Worked on bullies; worked on HS boys who thought it was a good idea to hit a girl.  And, since the statute of limitations has long since passed, you may ask how I know that but I'll limit the story to "we didn't break any of his bones but there were visible marks and our intervention with him effected a 100% cure."

2013-12-23 07:52:30 AM
Yeah, when it's three boys (two of whom are a year older) against one, it makes me suspicious of whether the assault victim is actually the bully, or the bullied.

/bullies get away with it because they're popular and have friends who will back them up
//even with blatant lies

Like Frankie Boyle.

My experience as someone who was bullied in grade school 30 years ago is pretty much exactly like TFA. Bullies can do pretty much whatever they want with impunity, but if you stand up to a bully, you're going down.  I never understood it.  It's not like the adults didn't know what was going on.

Watched a French-produced program on WWII and saw some horrific concentration-camp imagery I had NOT seen before....

Some people ( Einsatzgruppen/Waffen-SS leaders ) needed to be killed, IMHO...
