It's pretty cool and all, but the newsflash tag should be reserved for truly important "immediate reaction required" things like natural disasters.  No sporting achievement qualifies.

A Cool, Spiffy, or even Hero tag would have been better.

There have been similar sports newsflash stories in the past.

Yeah, but there shouldn't be.  It reduces the utility of the newsflash tag, IMO.  If we allow the use of the Newsflash tag for everything that somebody thinks is important, we might as well get rid of all the other tags.

Looks like the modmins agree with you and not me though.  So congratulations Peyton and Denver.

Yes.  This ranks right up there with winning WWII, the moon landing, Kennedy assassination, fall of the Berlin wall, and Miley's twerking debacle.

Couldn't happen to a classier guy.  Awesome to see after he essentially couldn't throw the ball two years ago at this time.  Congratulations, Peyton.

He threw 51 touchdowns against the Texans? Damn! That's incredible! Definitely NewsFlash worthy!

And if he can manage 266 yards next week, he gets the single season passing yards record.

Didn't Brady play Buffalo,The Jest and Miami for 6 total games when he set the record?

Puerto Rico took a big step in 2012, but electoral college politics being what they are I wouldn't expect much.

here i am, coming home this week, after years abroad, and i done thought yall made puerto rico a state. well.... huh. so a new record in some sort of sport (i am aware that jagr has now passed 690, 692 and tied 694 goal marks...)

Pats fan here (though far from die-hard). I don't think this record is all that big of a deal ($10 says it gets broken again before 2020), but congrats to Manning. Brilliant season, especially after coming back from that injury.

Superficially, I think that Brady comes off as kind of a douche and Manning's aw-shucks schtick doesn't always sit well with me - but in reality they're both decent guys who have absolutely worked their asses off to get where they are, and it's been awesome to watch them do it. Anyone going out of their way to badmouth either of them needs to get a life.

You are far to rational to engage in any type of discourse here on Fark.

I'm sure he'll grab another one next week as he throws for exactly one more yard than needed to break the record

2013-12-22 08:01:39 PM
so do they sit Manning the final game of the season, or do they try to go for the yardage record as well?

i say might as well go all-in on the stat stuff, that defense lost von miller and isn't going to do jack in the postseason... this isn't the 18-1 Patriots team Brady got 50 touchdown passes with... there's a good chance the Broncos still go one and done

AdamK: so do they sit Manning the final game of the season, or do they try to go for the yardage record as well

Given that they need to win next week for home field advantage, I'm pretty sure he plays.  Also, every time he sits in week 17, they choke in the playoffs.  I realize that sometimes also happens when he plays in week 17.

I don't really like Manning, but his quip about the record being safe until next season when Brady breaks it again made me chuckle.

I want to hate the gigantic foreheaded bastard, but he always throws a hook in there and makes me not hate him, just dislike him.

Crying over what? It's not like Peyton threw the 51st touchdown to knock the Pats from the playoffs. Always amazed how personally some people make their sports hate.

Congrats, Peyton. Glad to see you come back to play in top form.

As far as using a Newsflash for sports goes, I think it's acceptable when a team wins a World Championship of any sport, but not much else. This was a gratuitous use for sure.
