Step 1) Show up

Step 2) Say I am Groot

Step 3) Repeat step 2 as needed

Step 4) Deposit check

I'm not familiar with "Guardians of the Galaxy" so at first I thought the headline was some sort of clever pun.

He will never get enough credit for that movie. Someone on reddit did a short story about The Iron Giant being in the Pacific Rim storyverse.  It wasn't very long, just a few paragraphs. But the premise was very good. I always wanted more stories about Iron Giant, this was a great brainstorm. Here, found it.

Obey me.

You know, he could talk in the Annihilation Conquest mini that springboarded the modern Guardians. Now he's just a joke character. Sad.

I don't have a problem with this, but I will have a problem if they have him saying anything more than "I am Groot"

(it's basically STATION!!!)

And I'm disappointed in Bradley Cooper as Rocket because I always read Rocket with Moe Howard's voice

He is talking, it's just that very few people understand his language so all most hear is "I am Groot", I forget who it was in Annihilation that could actually understand him, but Rocket gets the gist.

Maximus, brother to Black Bolt, understood Groot.

As it turns out Groot comes from royalty, had an excellent education and is a sheer genius when it comes to quantum physics.

Son of Thunder: /One Who Knows... very little about this incarnation of GotG

This is the "present-day" incarnation of GOTG, not the original future one that fought the Badoon. If I remember correctly, the present-day group comes across a time-displaced Vance Astro early on and picks up their name from him. Fun group. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but does some interesting things.

The Marvel Now reboot hasn't even explained how they all got together.
They're only on issue 9 now.  Issue 0 was Star Lord's origin story, but other than that, there's no explanation how they all got together and they're already in a time-ripping-multi dimension story thing that is action pack but light on exposition.

And Angela is there.... she was originally in Spawn (!!!!) and somehow ended up in the Marvel Universe (and she just saved the Guardian's ass)

It's a fun read, but, again, no explanation of who anyone is

Marvel does, and they're setting them up as the defacto "mutants" of the movieverse.

OK then. Seeing that the Inhumans tend to keep to themselves, I guess the first film is Maximus vs Black Bolt.

How do you figure? The licenses are pretty specific, Marvel has the rights to the Skrulls (except Super Skrull(s), not that theyd make sense w/o the F4 anyway) and Kree even, Ronan is gonna be in GotG. First appearance doesnt mean a whole lot.

I just can't stand this Francavilla art work!

I get he's "award winning" and all, but if I wanted to look at 70's comic art, I'd read 70's comics!
It's hard to look at it.

Angela showing up because the multiverse was shattered at the end of Age of Ultron. She was brought over into Marvel because her creator sued for her ownership and is now working for Marvel.

Yeah, but for a "reboot" they should explain that.  I have no idea, as a new reader, what the Age of Ultron is and only knew who she was because a friend told me about her.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the comic so far (only 9 issues in) but I wish I knew more, is all

I did a quick summery search for all the large Marvel events and Age of Ultron was one of them. I rarely get to read comics when they come out but I barrow them from my older brother. I read the summery of AoU and thought, this could be interesting. The way they introduced her was just as you are feeling. She shows up with a confused and pissed off attitude and wants to kill someone. She said something like, and this is a summery: "I don't know where I am or why I am here. All I know is I want a head for my wall."

/correct me if I am off on my quote. Its been a while.

I'm still betting that everything Marvel Comics is doing to Spider-Man right now is also because they're trying to do an end-run around Sony's film rights to the character.

Right now in Superior Spider-Man, the 616 continuity, Peter Parker is still 'dead' and Otto Octavius is still in Pete's body. He has systematically destroyed every good thing about Spider-Man and his reputation. It's clear he's getting closer and closer to being a supervillain again, AS Spider-Man.

They've been moving away from Pete's supporting cast and giving Otto his own cast of supporting characters. They've got Goblin stuff brewing in the background, and it's pretty clear that Norman is behind the mask again... And he's aware that Parker's mind has been replaced with Ock's.

I believe that when the end-game is played, Spider-Man as we know him will cease to be. Ock will have completely ruined Spidey's reputation and possibly recreated him as a villain. Spider-Man will be changed forever by all of this.

Meanwhile, Miles Morales (Spider-Man from the Ultimate universe) is likely going to be the only survivor of the 616 Galactus' attack on the Ultimate universe' Earth, because he's being sent to the 616 Earth (he's been there before, briefly) along with the Ultimate Reed Richards (an out-and-out villain and madman).

So when it's over, Spider-Man will no longer be a hero, Miles will take on a different superhero name and take over in Pete's role, and Marvel Studios will have their flagship character-- in a new-but-familiar package-- to make movies with while farking over Sony at the same time.

That would be farking diabolical, i love it... But otoh the movie going public really doesnt give a fark what goes on in the comics, even if Peter Otto Parker Octavius becomes a villain, people will still go see Sony Spider-Man movies. I would love to see Spider-man in the MCU personally, but if Marvel feels they need a sarcastic lower middle class teenage superhero in their roster for The Avengers, does it really matter if he shoots webs and sticks to walls? Theyve got plenty of other super heroes to choose from.
