What she said was pretty awful.

And she's in PR.

And Twatter is public.

So...so I have zero f*cks to give.

Holy shiat.. That's a pretty farking bad tweet.. There is no amount of spin you could put on that to explain yourself..  That's shiat you post on 4Chan or on Fark under an alias and pray no one can track you down via a Google search.

Another 90 IQ BA in marketing who started off as a booth bunny and thought posting stuff to social media somehow meant she had career skills.

Why is this even news? People are so desperate to squeeze in their two-minutes-hate that somebody that nobody's ever heard of, and will never hear of again, is somehow important to anyone but herself? Hmm... any Republicans say anything racist today? Damn. How about washed-up celebrities? No? Crap. How about mayors or other government officials? Cops? Teachers? Goddamnit. Gotta hit the ol' Twitter search bar...

In another article Link her father even called her an idiot. On the other hand, the article goes on to explain that the father left South Africa for the US at the end of apartheid because he was afraid it was going to turn into "a s***hole" and "become racist".

That apple definitely did not fall far from the tree.

Johnson: Researcher: I'm not sure how far you can really climb in the PR game if you've caused drunken PR disasters.

She'll be back someplace else.  Her father is a SA billionaire.
How do you think she got this "job" that lets her flit about all over the world in the first place?
Now another rich person's kid can have that job.

That being said, she may have to change her name. Its kind of toxic now after all the PR exposure.

Well, if "Sacco" is now out, how about "Vanzetti"?

Or would that just be anarchy?

FloydA: I still don't understand the point she was trying to make.  Does she actually think white people are immune?

Maybe so. There are people that believe that as long as you are white, have hetero sex with only white non IV drug users, that you can't get aids.

bigworld2000: How can someone who has gotten so far in the PR industry think that something like that could ever be okay?

Some people have the belief that they can do what they want without consequence. I'm pretty sure you have run across a person or two like this in your life.

GORDON: Good thing the internet tattled on her.  We all love watching a train wreck, don't we.

Stay classy.

She should have taken that advice before she sent that tweet out publicly.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Eh, I hate to see someone fired over a tweet, but what she said was just so, so wrong. White women are a major target of rape in Africa, so she's definitely at risk for getting AIDS. I really don't know what she was thinking.

I think she thinks she has an edgy sense of humor and we should all find her incorrigibly charming

Silly cow

Seconded.

Also, I don't think her getting canned was ever in doubt.

She might want to consider another career, or less alcoholism. Or both. Probably both. I'm not sure how far you can really climb in the PR game if you've caused drunken PR disasters.

Still, who knows, maybe stormfront needs a PR rep. She is, as she pointed out, white.

Mugato: How many times in the threads on this site alone has it been made clear free speech doesn't apply to privately owned companies? Is there some manner of interpretive dance that can make it clearer?

OgreMagi is right.  But I'm slowing but I'm slowly gaining admiration for your creative dismantling of labor laws.

I can't fire you because you're a minority......but attend a pro-minority political rally and hey, my customers don't like that.  You're fired.

I can't fire you for being gay (in some places)........but come out of the closet and hey, my customers don't like that.  You're fired.

Atheist?  Well, my customers are mostly believers.  Fired.

In fact, if you don't go to the same church and support the same things I do, my customers might get suspicious and that could hurt business.  Fired.

You free speech right is totally intact.  At no point is the government silencing you.  It's just a private employer thing and if your private conduct hurts my business......

ongbok: OgreMagi: Who's twitter account did she use?  If it was her personal account, it was none of her employer's business.  If it was the company account, yeah, that's a firing.

So it is none of the companies business if you say something in public that can come back to make the company look bad or your boss finds offensive?

You are suggesting that you should give up your right to free speech if your employer demands it.  Turn this around.  What if you were fired because you publicly supported gay rights, or abortion, or gun rights, or any number of other issues.  Depending on your location, each of those stances could cause "negative publicity".  And given how easy it is to get information on someone via the internet, your employer could be easily discovered.

Don't support her firing simply because you found her statement offensive.  That's how you end up losing rights.

Heh, just shows there is a venue for tasteless humor, but a public twitter feed ain't it. Had she said the same thing here under a Fark handle, no one would have given it a second look

But, the entitled twatwaffle happened to do it under her personal handle, all public and shiat, identifying her employee status.

As a digital media PR executive, her meteoric descent - OF HER OWN ACCORD - was spectacular to watch.  Given her other tweets that have surfaced in the past couple of days, my guess is she had more than a few 'frenemies' who pounced on this.  Her cataclysmic ignorance of the social media climate in the midst of the Phil Robertson chatter, her obvious lack of self/social awareness, and her position as (presumably) a freakishly overpriced executive, these all created a perfect storm for her to set herself up as a massive target.

She got exactly what she deserved, and her AW tendencies unwittingly threw her, front and center, into the lion's den of her own demise.

I just hope that media/sociology teachers use this as a case study to teach kids that social media can be a social death sentence, and use your damned head if you're going to use the Internet!

Coming on a Bicycle: FloydA: I still don't understand the point she was trying to make.  Does she actually think white people are immune?

That's what I'm confused about. But if that's the case - how is that bad? I mean, it's stupid - but bad?

I read it as she's saying "Africa is a continent full of superstitious, uneducated blacks who live in huts and have no money and no access to the kind of medical care that us whites can get there, haha, isn't that funny!  Their HIV transmission rates are through the roof because they're impoverished, unlike me, a privileged white person who would never have to have sex with those people, haha!  I'm lovin my life biatches, gotta catch my flight now!

This is one of the reasons for me hating social media, along with the people who use it.

Social media, just simply by its very nature....

...and the people who are too unbe-farking-leiveably stupid to be self-conscious about its nature.
