Not saying there aren't excellent forgeries out there, but:

FTFA: He show Teichner a "nice old bottle," a 1737 Lafite. Its label reads "1737 Chateau Lafite Rothschild."  "You know, the Rothschilds didn't own Lafite in 1737," Koch said.

Maybe he should have done a bit of research on the bottle before spending big bucks on it.  If his time is worth more than the two minutes it would have taken to Google the history of the winery, apparently the money he spent on that bottle wasn't that big of a deal to him.

A billionaire cheats you and he will probably have to apologize, maybe write a letter. Pay a fine.

If you cheat a billionaire, you will go to jail.

Much as I'd like to wipe my butt with a Koch product, their toilet paper is more like cardboard. I'm avoiding all their products now when possible.

Google is a liberal company; they would have lied to him.

Koch only deserves a coca sampler box, with dried feces flakes instead of the cocoa.

Crimes like counterfeiting and fraud are destructive to all societies. Its one of the reasons we have government and contact enforcement.

There's still wine in the bottle, too -- what could it be?  "Moose piss?" Koch suggested.

Yeah. This is the one that's only worth about a tenth of what the two hyperpolitical ones are.  The one who's more into the living the richy-rich lifestyle (the absurd wine cellar, Americas Cup yachting, fine arts), as opposed to the one with a compound in Wichita, penny-pinching on his employees, and whose only real goal in life appears to be making America shiattier.

tearfully commit suicide hours before your trial, shooting yourself six times with two guns.

Con artists sometimes gather other information about their marks' business dealings, and we can't have that getting out in court, can we?

Does one buy a 250 + year old bottle of wine to drink, or just to say "I have a 250 year old bottle of La-De-Da because I'm a rich douche that can afford it?"

Yeah, I know the answer. I just can't see buying booze to look at.

Still liquid in the bottle, maybe. After almost 300 years, aint wine anymore in any case.

I was wondering why they were doing a puff piece about wine counterfeiting instead of asking him about how much money he's spent on counterfeit political advertising.

2013-12-22 04:19:43 PM
Does anyone know the price break after which you're not getting any improvement in wine quality? How old can wine can get before going bad?

If these rich people want to shell out money for nothing, what's the point in complaining if that's what they get?

mrlewish: This can be solved by free market solutions and less government regulations. and Tax cuts for the rich.

This IS a free market solution.

There is demand for fancy bottles that are (most likely) filled with undrinkable liquids that the very rich use to show off to their peer group.  Since the supply of bottles is very small, these courageous entrepreneurs have stepped up to the plate, and have begun manufacturing products to meet the demand.  But once again the mainstream media shows its anti-business by painting these creative capitalists in the worst possible light.

Shameful, really.
