The first concert I ever saw was Cheap Trick in 1976.
I still enjoy the hell out of their first 3 albums.

/Happy Birthday Rick!

It isn't that Ouijas are BS. But rather they work on purely earth-bound reasons. No need to invoke the spirit world.

I saw them around that time with AC/DC opening (I think they were actually alternating nights) and it was incredible.  We saw Bun E Carlos in a downtown Portland music shop picking up some drumsticks early in the afternoon. That's how kind of 2nd tier they were before Budokan and Dream Police.

White people don't dance to groove. They dance to catchy lyrical choruses.

Start with the chorus, pre chorus, chorus, quick verse, more chorus, Quick verse, pre chorus, chorus, guitar solo, chorus, chorus, chorus....collect money.....WIN.

Dave Grohl is a God.

Can you honestly tell me you forgot?
Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen?

HBD Rick!

Bane of Broone: I like Cheap Trick, but "guitar virtuoso"?

Agreed.  I think he was known more for his crazy guitar designs than his guitar playing.

CSB:

Years ago I was standing just off stage during a Cheap Trick show in Denver minding my own business when a huge man walks up to me and says, "You see these guitars next to you?  Obviously these are Rick's guitars.  Don't touch a single one."  With no prior thought of doing anything of the sort, I spent the next hour and a half making sure I touched every damn one of them.

In the future, all rock musicians will look like Bun E. Carlos.

I've always liked Cheap Trick but had never seen them live. Saw them a year ago on the state fair circuit and got the impression I caught them about ten years too late. Zander's voice is still good, but Carlos gone, replaced by Rick's son, Rick just kind of wanders the stage like a zombie, and it felt tired, didn't have that same energy.  Also saw Night Ranger, without any expectations, the same year, and they really Brought it, surprisingly good and powerful, energetic, as good as they ever were.  Styx works hard and sounds good, though to me it's only half the experience without Dennis. REO was , um, workmanlike, but Kevin looks like a dried apple head doll now, and talks too long between songs and plays too many B-sides.

I loved this song but it wasn't released as a single in the UK AFAIK, I bought the album just to get it, was somewhat offput by every photograph of the drummer had a cigarrette hanging out of his mouth. Is he still alive?
