Seen it; liked it. Which is surprising since the first one did nothing for me.

To me he's more another one of "that actor who plays those really strange characters and does it really really well".  Whenever I see his name in a credits sequence now I immediately think "okay, this is going to be bizarre," closely followed by, "I should make sure to watch it."

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman seem determined to play every important iconic character. Between the two of them they've played:
Arthur Dent
Sherlock Holmes
Dr. Watson
Khan
Bilbo
Smaug
Sauron (The Necromancer)

I just can't wait for the inevitable A Christmas Carol with Cumberbatch as Scrooge and Freeman as Bob Cratchit...no seriously, I can't wait. Somebody get on that now.

This. But then enthusiasm became uncool. I think in the 90s.

I'm not sure how many people will get that, but it made me laugh in a very shameful way.

Oh sure, he displays a certain level of enthusiasm for the role, but Daniel Day-Lewis would have injected himself with reptile DNA and spent a few years hoarding treasure in a cave, occasionally creeping out to set fire to numerous towns and villages.

Motion capture for a dragon?  I'm sure they want lip movements to match up, but that just seems weird.  I'd figure they'd look for motion capture out of a lizard before going to a human actor if they really wanted movement synced.

It's a dragon, which is supposed to have an otherworldly feeling, not merely as a big lizard.

I wasn't going to go see this film, but now I want to again. :|

Since it was by far the best thing out of a highly-anticipated movie.

They made a giant cgi lizard smarter than the film's hero and this guy made people believe it.

Goddammit, don't make me want to watch this stupid movie. I hate it so much from everything I've read about it, EXCEPT for Smaug. I didn't want to watch it, but it looks like I'll have to.
