"I've got to get a 12-step program to get out."

I don't think admitting you have a substance abuse problem is going to help with the election...

This is clearly one of those dudes who could make it to 120 if he stays busy, but if he loses the election will be dead in a week.

Isn't that rather young, by Floridian standards?

Land first won office in 1949 after discharge from the Army following World War Two.

And he's been in office ever since with only one lost election in all that time? Dang.

Remind me to stay the hell offa this guy's lawn unless invited.

Normally, I have nothing but a dismal opinion of 'career politicians'. Politicians in general. but holy hell, 19 farking terms in office? Dude must be doing something right. I'd imagine no one lasts that long without keep near all sides relatively happy about the state of things.

Good on you, old guy.

Saw headline and the Toronto Sun icon and immediately thought Hazel McCallion, but then got confused when I saw the Florida tag. DNRTFA, though, because Toronto Sun.

Land's mayoral salary reached $153,000 in 2007 as the recession hit. Starting in 2008, he waived his salary and started working for free, according to the city personnel office.

Yep, I actually did read the article.  Another reason this guy goes into the 'maybe not evil' column,

Further proof that term limits would have no place in this country...

I'm guessing that means he's a "Buddy on the payroll who's a little too into children" kinda guy.

Based on the info in the article, the math doesn't work. But this town appears to have had two year terms when he was elected and at some point shifted to four year.

Still needs more to beat Erastus Corning.2nd of Albany, NY

Voting for him is Lucky -- you align yourself with his Long Life Chi, not with that jerk who managed his retirement account until 30 years ago, when he realized he needed to work at a nice salary until he dropped or have enough saved.

You know who instigates NYS Senators for corruption charges and fraud? Not the NYS Police, not the FBI. It's Albany P.D. You know who appoints Albany Police chief? The Mayor of Albany.
/Former Albany resident.

And who votes for the Mayor of Albany? The mistresses and illegitimate children of the NYS Senators.

I grew up in Apopka, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies. That city really sucks though. It's pretty much unofficially segregated into white/black zones. South Apopka is a place you don't visit, ever.

It's sad, too, because it's like stepping into the 1950s when you go to that place. They're trying to improve with modernized infrastructure, trail systems, etc, but there's been almost no improvements to the black part of town. It's a damned shame, really.

Yeah, sabotaging possible candidates who might actually need to be paid for a fulltime job isn't a dick move at all.
