It's a farking aluminum trailer. You can buy these by the dozen for next to nothing. There is nothing special about this particular one at all other than some ingenious bastard figured out how to get publicity.

Next to nothing is more than nothing, though.

One of the things I've missed about the Mid-Atlantic since moving to FL is the lack of diners.

Sure, there are places that claim to be diners, but they're only open for regular restaurant hours and have menus and decor set up to capitalize on retro 50s nostalgia for snowbirds, and there's the Waffle House, which is at least a 24 hour joint, but it isn't really the same.

I miss the 24 hour diners that have ten page menus with everything from breakfast-all-day to snapper soup to Greek specialties to filet mignon with lobster tails.  I don't recall ever seeing anyone order the steak and lobster at the First State Diner, but it made me feel good that they offered it.  Sometimes you just want a plate of liver and onions or a Greek salad with extra anchovies at 3am (and in full disclosure those times usually came after a night at the bar) and the diner could do that.

You could change the name of it to Latrina. It's French.

WTF? This place has been vacant for twenty years and still has all the glass and stainless steel? Must be some lazy crack heads in that part of town.

Fond memories of the Oasis in Burlington, VT. There also used to be one on rte 7 south as well.

That won't last long.

I've always wanted a steel diner.  I was thinking of building one off the back of the house.

Trenton is dicey though.  It's right on the line between the good north Jersey mustard and the weak South Jersey mustard.

The difference in smell alone is important.

Here in Milwaukee we had Chris Elliot's Diner. It was fun, and even featured scenery in the movie "Major League".  And then some jerk let it slip away.  Hopefully someone bought it and did something like they're trying to do with this one.

There's a couple miles of suburbia between this place and the Trenton city limits. It's right past where the freeway and business versions of US1 merge; the traffic is so hellacious most of the time that it's a bad idea to try reach the place on foot from most directions. There is a welfare motel up the road a piece, but perhaps it does cater to the lazy.

Mmm, the pancakes alone in  places like that will give you 4-alarm coronaries. Yummy.

Was just recommending that book to a coworker. I think I need to read it again. I think it's the best thing Steven King has ever written.

"The diner used to be a popular place. It was a truck stop where truckers would stop and eat."
