$130m for basically an OPS guy who will be 32 in July?

WTF Indeed: $130m for basically an OPS guy who will be 32 in July?

When you put it that way, surprised the Yankees didn't take him.

Was going to say to be prepared for more balls dropping in the outfield, then noticed that Nelson Cruz was expected to leave.  Should even out, then...

Didn't they already overpay for a guy like that?

I don't understand why they just didn't re-sign Nelson Cruz, who would provide a great middle of the lineup trio with Beltre and Fielder. Plus, Choo can't hit lefties and sucks defensivey.

Between this, the Mariners grabbing Robinsin Cano, and the 2011-2012 offseasons for the Angels, the AL West is quickly in a bidding war for crap.

Coming out of retirement after only 50 years!

"Former Met pitcher Roger Craig once said that Choo Choo, when catching, used to give the sign for what pitch he wanted thrown, then look down to see what it was."

As I understand it, Nellie was on thin ice with the club -before- Biogenesis. After, there was pretty much no chance of him being re-signed.

WTF Indeed: basically an OPS guy

Can you give me an example of someone who is not an OPS guy?

mikemoto: I don't understand why they just didn't re-sign Nelson Cruz

Nelson Cruz is 2 years older and has had the same fWAR or lower than Choo every year since 2005...when they played a combined 18 games. And yes, that does include defense.

Yeah, he'd be cheaper, but if the Rangers don't care about the money, it's tough to argue he'd be better.

I really want to know just what the Yankees offered and what Boras did after that offer.

It appears that the Rangers are mortgaging the future, and going all-in for this season. They have to improve 5-7 games to catch the A's Between Prince Fielder and Sin Soo Choo, they may have closed the gap considerably. But definitely an over-pay.

Richard Justice at mlb.com has all but declared the Rangers the WS Champions in 2014. It seems a bit premature.

Yeah, they picked the Rangers the last two years. Premature is right.

So does that make them the Bluejays of 2014?

/not that I think that will happen either
//I'd think the Rangers have a good shot at the playoffs
///Once you get there all bets are off

I'm not sure a powerful enough microscope has been invented to allow us to observe it, so I remain skeptical.

Rumor has it that Choo agreed to 7/140 from the Yanks, but Boras then upped it to 7/143.  Yanks told him to go fark himself and signed Beltran instead.

Shins when are you all about Interweb etiquette? I thought this thread was a place to Choo the fat about Texas' newest addiShin. On that note, he definitely fills a need for Texas at lead-off. I'm just not sure JD should have offered him Soo many years on the deal.

2013-12-22 01:41:39 PM
The Yankees offered more money but with the lack of a state income tax in Texas the Rangers deal gave him more money in his pocket.

Yeah, the Yankees have little patience for Boras' shiat these days.

Hahaha, said the A's fan. Prince Fielder's big years are behind him, and Choo is just a better-than-average lead-off hitter who is below-average defensively.

Bring your bags of money to the fight. I'll bring Billy Beane.
