The Anarchist Cookbook, now that's a name I've not heard in a long time....since like 6th grade actually.

Not that the Anarchist Cookbook had anything really insightful to impart but even if it did, taking the book out of print? When are people who don't know the basics of how the internet work going to finally die out?

2013-12-21 02:44:05 PM
With the book you'll learn how to make a bunch of stuff that doesn't work.

That's what I was thinking... Isn't a paper copy of some of the crappier websites kinda obsolete?

So basically this guy who wrote a "book" that only kids gave a shiat about when it was passed around  as a paper book, is trying to beg that this dangerous book of his that no one cares about be taken away so that another generation of rubes will think it's worth finding, except they're not falling for it.

2013-12-21 03:08:55 PM
He's been saying this for decades. This is not news.

I have this book and the Anarchist Cookbook!

Misguided adolescent.

Dude, see that? It's a closed barn door. There is no horse.

Sounds like someone's sales are slipping.

Yep.

not sure how this really relates to a politics link. I mean I guess when it was written and distributed maybe....

Tough shiat, aging hippie. As your ilk used to say, "you bought the ticket, now you take the ride."

I guess he'll never catch the thin man now.

The whole thing could be downloaded from many BBSes back in the mid 1980s. Being in or out of print has been irrelevant for decades.

Also quite a bit of the information in the book was plain wrong the day it was printed. I don't know if he was misinformed or screwing with people. Probably a bit of both.

Came here to say this.

2013-12-21 05:40:50 PM
There are more than 2 million copies in print and the book has been connected in one way or another to what NBC calls "hundreds of malcontents, mischief-makers and killers," most recently Karl Pierson, the teenager involved in a Colorado school shooting.

So... a little like "Catcher in the Rye" then?

Isn't that what I already said?

That thing was so bad, I understand it was rumored to have been a publication of COINTELPRO. What little info that could have been accurate or usable at time of publication is now decades old, anyway.

Not really.

It also contains advice on how to make ricin and LSD and how to get high from fried bananas.

Do people still buy that one?

2013-12-21 05:57:16 PM
Due to the iffy nature of many of the recipes, it's probable that this book killed more anarchists than the cops ever did...

2013-12-21 05:58:38 PM
The book should be retooled "X Dangerous Experiments for Teenagers"

Nobody would bother with the book and it would vanish in under two years.

2013-12-21 06:10:28 PM
Fark him.  He could never earn enough to start to pay the medical bills of the kids who messed themselves up with his ill informed crap.  He writes a book that will get people hurt then realizes it was horrifically irresponsible?   I hope his name endures for centuries as the poster child for the hypocrisy of "radical chic".

2013-12-21 06:16:42 PM
I confess I bought this book back when I was 19 when they where talking about banning it.

It's an interesting read, but a lot of it is either inaccurate or outdated.

It's still referenced in one of Zappa's funniest songs, so I hope so.

Skimmed through it. Apparently shes upset that Pagans celebrated christmas before the christians did. Plus the need to invade a quonset-hut and burn all their books about "what the hell is Kwansa? ".

Fried banana *peels*, not the dessert menu item from Chinese restaurants.

Imagine I tracked down and linked the Don Martin cartoon here. Onion/belt farkers will know what I'm referring to.

The book was found at the Arapahoe shooters house and the Boston Marathon bombers as well as Timothy McVeigh .  The printed and sold version, not the internet version.  I guess it's not killing the people he wanted dead.

2013-12-21 06:36:15 PM
Old news.

The guy wanted it out of print since the 70's but was told to take a hike because he wasn't the copyright holder.

2013-12-21 06:37:02 PM
I had that book when I was a teenager. Even when I was young, dumb and irresponsible I knew most of the things in that book were junk. It was fun to read, but I never took it seriously. If your so inclined, you can download it in PDF form from many websites.

/Now that I think about it, I did learn to make Thermite from that book. Never used it maliciously though.

I don't think he makes any money off sales of the book.

Does this mean that the 20 year old copy I have somewhere will become a collector's item and worth the paper it's printed on?

EngineerAU: Mugato: Isn't that what I already said?

Uh yeah it's exactly what I said. It's both irrelevant and I'm sure you could find it if you really had to on the net.

I hear all of their homes also had toilets. Why are we still letting plumbing companies profit of the sale of these deadly devices?

I heard they all wore shirts while they killed people. I wonder if they were in league with Bobby "The Shirt" Briggs, notorious for always wearing shirts while committing his crimes.

Abby's book is better and still fun to read.

He doesn't. He sold the copyright to the publisher for a flat fee.

Huh. I think I used to have a copy of that. I wonder what happened to it?

The Golden Book of Chemistry is way more useful. It, freshman chem and the internet will let you make most things. Just remember that they track oil of vitriol and HCl when sold.

Has he admitted that it was written by the CIA/FBI because half of the 'recipes' will get you killed if you try to make them?

Did you read the section on "how to make a tinfoil hat"?

2013-12-21 07:22:59 PM
I have a copy.

It's not so much that it's dangerous, it's mostly obsolete. If you're so hopelessly out of touch as to use bomb recipes from the Anarchists Cookbook instead of just looking up where to get DU shells online, you deserve to blow yourself up.

That cookbook was a load of crap, there weren't any tasty recipes in there and the ones that were in there caused my kitchen to blow up.

I was also led to believe that it was the inspiration for Cat Sevens' song Banapple Gas. Back in college we tried the banana peel recipe from the Anarchist's Cookbook and I can assure you, the only effect noted was a mild to moderate headache.

gravy chugging cretin.: Abby's book is better and still fun to read.

At first I thought that said Arby's and was trying to think of a joke to tie it all in.
