Sorry, you are a little bit too important to our interests in the region.

Here is a bag of cash, we cool right?

Coincidentally, I'm watching "The Mouse That Roared" right this very minute.

Telling an ambassador to shut up or get out is threatening war?

Erdogan is an ass, but he's not that stupid.

2013-12-21 04:56:07 PM
Don't we have a bunch of equipment real close to their eastern border? Stuff that isn't worth flying back home, but is way closer than anything else?

2013-12-21 04:56:10 PM
I didnt see the part about war

2013-12-21 04:57:26 PM
Among the scores detained in pre-dawn raids on December 17 were also the chief executive of state-owned bank Halkbank, Suleyman Aslan, and the Azerbaijani businessman Reza Zarrab

Now I'ma jelly. Why can't they do pre-dawn raids of bankers here?.

Wow, Subby made something out of nothing there. The article: Turkish PM biatches and whines that its a conspiracy that his political allies are corrupt, and would kindly like it if the United States didn't pay attention to that sort of thing. Yet, somehow Subby got Turkey wanting to go to war out of that. Eh.

2013-12-21 05:02:49 PM
The unlikely tag must be for submitter's thought processes.

2013-12-21 05:08:12 PM
There in the article does it say that? It's a diplomatic spat but nothing to get shooty over.

Am I being trolled by Fark Chickenhawks?

2013-12-21 05:11:10 PM
This is what happens when you make an emotionally unstable single mother CIA station chief.

Actually, we have at least two military bases in Turkey (that I am aware of.) Turkey is a member of NATO,

So is Greece but that never really stopped Turkey...

Because what possible drawback can there be to invading a country in that region on a flimsy pretext?

2013-12-21 05:34:23 PM
Sounds more like the Turkish judiciary is getting a little too close to calling out the Turkish PM on being the Bribe-Taker-In-Chief for the Turkish PM's comfort, and is looking to blame everybody but himself for the Turkish judiciary finally closing in on him.

OK, so we want to invade, so that means...hmmm...*scanning list*...they can't be white unless...*scanning*...appeasement, aggression, threat to European...*scanning*...right, so they can't be white, confirmed.

But Santa is white and...*scanning*...Anatolia...*scanning*...Turks arrived in 11th century...*scanning*...

Yup, good to go, casus belli confirmed:  Turks made Santa a mulatto.

OPERATION ENDURING SANTA IS IN EFFECT.  THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

But we're extremely pathetic and weak now that we have someone in charge who doesn't jump immediately to bombing!!

All tfa tells me is that we are incredibly insulated in our little McAmerican world here and protected from those scary brown people out there.

Pass the ketchup.

Turkey has a million men in the military, including reserves, and vast amounts of advanced equipment. They (like everyone else) isnt about to threaten the USA, nor would they ever want to, but sheeh.

Don't know. Ask Iraq. They might know.

You think he's stupid? He'll just sack base commanders. Then what, huh? Huh? Thought so

I think the UN should say, "No countries can start a war or initiate any acts of aggression on any other country until and unless said county (the intending-to-be aggressor country) has all its shiat together. That is, very low unemployment, debt-free, trade-positive, democratically elected government leaders, etc."

/So far, probably only the Scandinavian countries, Switzerland and maybe Qatar might qualify.

Oh, right. That's why subby saw "impending war" where the rest of us saw "Erdogan has his boxers in a twist."

Are we going to kick their ass and change their name to Chicken?

It's much too hot and humid to have a war in Qatar. And Switzerland is too steep.

I'm suggesting that only those countries can start a war, not be the target of a war.

Naw, just take over Istanbul long enough to officially rename it Constantinople again.

You know... for the lulz.

Erix: Telling an ambassador to shut up or get out is threatening war?

If I'm not mistaken, and I probably am, I thought that ejecting an ambassador without cause constituted a cessation of diplomatic relations. That's certainly not equivalent to a state of war, of course, but it would be a Very Bad Thing if it were to actually occur - which, I strongly suspect, it will not.

No, we're going to rename all the cities Fred followed by a Japanese ideogram selected at random.

LOL @  Qatar having "democratically elected government leaders".  Not to mention the whole thing where 75% of their population is made up of indentured servants.

fark YOU SUBBY and your PLEASE PROCEED...

You first dickhead.

Wait, did I say dickhead?

I'm sorry.....

I meant to say something a little more diplomatic...

Like chickenhawk farking coward......

I believe what the subby meant to say was that Turkey is a staunch US ally whose longstanding friendship and mutual support has been invaluable over the last seven decades.

Saudi Arabia would be debt free in about 20 minutes and could just about wipe out unemployment as well if they cut a few foreign jobs out

"This is a dirty plot against the national will," Erdogan said.

When things are going well, it's the will of the people.

When things are going crappy, it's an American-backed international plot to subvert the will of the people.

/Republicanism on the international stage.
//I bet Soros is behind this!

So, only the countries who don't have the traditional reasons for starting a war may start a war?

/not bad for a first cut

sounds more like a corrupt PM is looking for excuses to explan why his closets allies are getting busted and is trying anything to spin this mess.

2013-12-21 10:24:52 PM
We'll beat the stuffing out of 'em. With mashed potatoes, and cranberries.

Turks are Indo-European and very quick to claim the Euro part. Their ancestors swept east across Anatolia from Europe, settled in Turkmenistan, then swept back west, conquered Anatolia and turned the Arab world on its head by making a secular, highly successful Muslim empire, which persists in slumber until the other Europeans give them permission to take out the Arab nations again to stem the tide of radicalism.

/I think I got that right
//This Erd guy is gonna end up arrested and the military will hold new elections just like always because he is a corrupt Islamist.

2013-12-21 11:34:04 PM
They'd probably cancel military access first.  A -5 stability hit is nasty.
