(USA Today)   Division 3 football title game features Wisconsin-Whitewater vs. Mount Union. This is not a repeat from so many years that it'd probably break the headline character limit listing them   (usatoday.com) divider line 25

How come they can have a playoff system and real colleges can't?

/Whew.  Got that out of the way.

47 freshmen on Whitewater. They'll be playing in the championship for a while.

Are those the only two colleges playing Div3 football?

Seems like it sometimes.

/Specifically championship time, the only time anyone remembers there's Div3 football

Because its the only way to drum up interest in a division of 3rd stringers in high school, Christ I have seen more interesting middle/high school games than division III playoffs.

I went to 10 DIII games this year (yes, my son was on the team), and had a great time. It's good football. They went 9-1, finished in the top 25 and missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker.

Just as an aside my old high school just won the State Championship last night. No thats not the interesting part. The coach was the least modest coach EVAR when interviewed on the field as time ran out.. They asked him about winning it all and he said "You dont win championships by accident. It starts at the top"

Tricked!  I thought it was NDSU, not SDSU, playing today and looked for a timely appearance of No Pants Girl.

BAH!

There are 244 NCAA Division III football programs.  The whole thing is a total joke from a competitive balance standpoint.

Yeah they should have at least 230 teams in the playoff for it to count otherwise they favor only the good teams!!!

The UW state schools should really be DII/FBS based on enrollment but for whatever reason they all choose to be DIII.

Could you imagine these teams earning their way into the Big Twelven and "American Athletic" conferences?

Don't see a thread for the dumb bowls being played today, so:

Holy shiat, USC is beating Fresno like a bulldog that used to belong to Michael Vick.

It is? I thought that was UWM. I did 3 years in dorms & one in an apartment at UWW when I was there, and stayed in town for the summer because I had a job in the school accounting office. Of course, it was also 70 miles for me to get home...

It was bad when I was there, mostly because it's a giant class reunion if you went to the Falls, Waukesha North/West, or Madison Memorial so it wasn't far.  For those like you and I (I had 100 miles each way) it boring in a hurry.  At least you could hit the bars for fairly cheap.

The difference between D2 and D3 isn't enrollment or school size, it's that D2 awards scholarships and D3 does not.

I went to a D3 school that has played in the National Championship. I was recruited to play at a couple D2 schools and didn't even consider them, for academic reasons.

I have found that lots of people that play D3 football chose their school and then decided to play football there. If your not being recruited to play D1, why would you compromise your education/college experience?

I went to Madison, but a buddy of mine who got kicked out of Madison ended up going to UW-W. I visited him a few times and we'd hit the town. It was impossible to get any action in that town, so we would just drink heavily. Some of my greatest drunken shenanigans happened in whitewater. They usually started at the Brass Rail doing Irish car bombs and ended getting pizza from Rosa's at 3 am wondering how we weren't in jail.

No, they should have 75 bowl games so every .500 team gets a chance to win a ribbon.

Yeah, Whitewater and Platteville are the the suitcase schools in Wisco. They have great business and engineering programs though (respectively). And sluts. Whitewater has lots if slutty girls.
