teto85: Are they expecting the farmworkers to riot?

I grew up in that general area. There is a LOT of gang violence.

Honest Bender: teto85: Are they expecting the farmworkers to riot?

This.  They warn the kids stationed at the Presidio of Monterey not to go there alone or at night.  That place is the nastiest part of central California.

And now, of course, they're gonna look for a reason to use their new toy.

Great, now Sheriff Joe is going to have to buy a fighter jet. Way to up the ante, Salinas.

It's almost as if the cops are gearing up for war.

2013-12-21 08:55:41 AM
The new truck will stop any handgun rounds, rifle rounds up to .50 caliber, and rocket-propelled grenades.

Reading comprehension isn't a priority with you is it subby.

At least when the draft comes back, you can get called up to work downtown in a blue uniform or grow a mustache and work undercover.

How does the roof hold up to RPGs?

FTA:

The old 1986 armored money carrier was rusted and didn't provide much protection. A .40 caliber gun could shoot right through it.

Oh no! That sounds horribly unsafe. Most criminals use large caliber weapons, right?

So it cost nothing to by US entity to ship it around the world?

Democrats seem to think so.

Your tax dollars paid for the shipping.

Is it a police state yet?

This will fix the gang violence problem like a hammer fixes a broken watch.

Monterey PD drools in envy.

You know, I should protest the militarization of America's police, but now I kind of want to be a cop just so I can drive this through a meth-lab.

What no flamethrower , how can you use it to control the masses w/o a indiscriminate flamethrower!

I for one, bow to the wishes of our police overlords.

If the department is broke, how will they maintain this
/it's not like you could just call up the police NAPA

2013-12-21 09:17:17 AM
Have to use a sticky bomb to stop it.

you can't just do what you want in the army and go home everyday

It will be needed when they start asking for your papers.

It may have been free, but upkeep has to be enormous. It's like a horse you don't realize through true cost until after you have it(owned horses forever). It's not like you can just take it to Pep Boys or Jiffy Lube.

haywatchthis: you can't just do what you want in the army and go home everyday

I thought this as I was typing. I picture these guys standing in front of a mirror in the morning, donning their crisp, pressed cammies, strapping on a leg holster, saying, "Yes, you are a total badass." It's farking dress-up for them. And like you said, they get to go back home that night and do it all over again.

Just like the rest of the SWAT toys. Why send a deputy when you can deploy the whole SWAT team to serve that subpoena?

Just furthers along the cause of militarizing the local police force.

It actually paid for itself, just as both wars did.

Wonder how much gas will cost to run that "free" truck. And maintenance has to be a bear, too.

That is pretty much the reason the cops push for that sort of thing.
