I see nothing about "botched."

Allergic reaction to a vasectomy?

That seems unlikely.

Existing depression kicked in to high gear by the fact that you felt you had to get a vasectomy because your insurance was about to run out and you had no job? More likely.

Blaming an unrelated party for your ills level? Over 9000.

Doctors fault. If he hadnt botched the vasectomy the patient would have only been shooting blanks.

It is also possible that the guy thought it would be like getting a wart removed and didn't take care of himself afterward. After a vasectomy, you spend three days with painkillers and an icebag on yer sack, and at least two weeks with antibiotics and muscle relaxants. Maybe once the initial pain started to lessen he started running around like an idiot instead of taking care of himself. According to TFA posted by Nina_Hartley's_Ass: the guy already had a history of blowing off medications. It's possible he did it to himself.

From another article I read:

"Developing over time can be a low-grade discomfort in the scrotum that's basically relieved by reversals because it's due to congestion that causes back pressure," Turek told the AP.

So, chronic blue balls led to shooting rampage?

That would be my understanding of a botched vasectomy.  Although that would mean he wouldn't be in pain, he would be expecting a new kid.

/my grandma had two botched tubal ligations.  The first botch resulted in my youngest uncle, the second resulted in my dad.  Grandpa didn't kill the doc, however did have a long talk with the man.
//poor grandma, had her first kid at age 20 then to have the 8th and final at age 40.

To the vasectomy, no.  To something used during the vasectomy, possibly.

ReapTheChaos: Nothing in the article says it was botched, he simply had an unusual reaction to the surgery, which happens.

Agreed.  Things sometimes happen.  Allergic reactions are normally not a doctor goof.

I'm going to put this down as second hand info from a man whose rowboat was an oar short.

Doctors comment, you do anything to a patient, you own whatever hap[pens, even if unrelated. If you give an old lady her annual flu shot and a month later she has a stroke, some family member is going to blame you for killing grandma.

drjekel_mrhyde: One would think you'll be less likely to go into a rage after getting snipped.

Why's that? He had a vasectomy, he wasn't castrated. The testicles are still there, and they're still hooked up, with the exception of the vas deferens, which only transfers sperm to the urethra. They still produce sperm and testosterone, the only difference is that the sperm spill into your body instead of that of your partner. The testosterone enters the bloodstream as always.

It is also possible that the guy thought it would be like getting a wart removed and didn't take care of himself afterward. After a vasectomy, you spend zero days with painkillers and an icebag on yer sack, (but you fake it to spend a long weekend on the couch with the remote) and at least two weeks with antibiotics and muscle relaxants. Maybe once the initial pain started to lessen he started running around like an idiot instead of taking care of himself. According to TFA posted by Nina_Hartley's_Ass: the guy already had a history of blowing off medications. It's possible he did it to himself.

FTFM.  One day of modest discomfort, two days of 'Man Cold' service from the wife and no biatching about the remote.  I think I might have took Tylenol once when the freezing was fading, but other than that, there was no need.  Didn't do the cold compress thing, wasn't required.  Antibiotics?  Muscle Relaxants?  No one I know ever got them with the snip.

I looked it up.

For example, from the Johns Hopkins Medicine Health Library page on Vasectomy:

Immune system reactions. After vasectomy, the testes continue to make sperm. When the sperm cells die, they are absorbed by the body, just as they are in a man who hasn't had a vasectomy. Sometimes, however, men, following a vasectomy, develop immune reactions to sperm.
Sperm usually don't come in contact with immune cells, so they don't elicit an immune response. But, vasectomy breaches the barriers that separate immune cells from sperm, and men can develop antisperm antibodies after the surgery. Some doctors and researchers are concerned that these immune reactions against parts of one's own body could cause disease. Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile diabetes, and multiple sclerosis are some of the illnesses suspected or known to be caused by immune reactions of this type.

*/

There's apparently a bit of controversy within the field about it. One Pubmed article says "There is no positive conclusion whether vasectomy leads to cell mediated immunity to spermatozoa." As for others, well, this was just a quick search: there's a bit more info out there.

Or you could just write it off as nutty and snark about it. It's so easy to be dismissive when you have no idea what you're talking about.

Maybe his guy's reaction was partly or mostly in his big head, but some men do have real problems afterward.

Me, I started to drink every night around that time but I doubt my vasectomy was the cause. I'd've probably become a drunk without it: for example since my vasectomy 6 years ago I've had sex exactly once, a year later. Like I tell my Facebook Friends, 'Don't ask why I drink, ask why I'm ever sober.'
