Wearing a scarf around your head would fark with your peripheral vision.  I wouldn't like that in a combat zone.

She must give an instant semi to the male soldiers who usually see either duck dynasty beards or walking daleks with blankets over them.

She probably is. Most people crazy/stupid enough to enlist in the Military when a war is going on are crazy/stupid enough to be a Republican.

Cheerleaders generally get paid jack squat. I used to have a boss who was an NFL cheerleader at the time and she was paid $50 for each game. No other salary.

Correct on all counts. A buddy of mine was dating a 49er cheerleader a couple of decades ago and her salary was $12,500/yr.
From the sound of it she worked her ass off for that, too. I guess it's an exposure thing.

So the US has "Intelligence Officers" in active war zones that are 25 year old ex NFL Cheerleaders.
That actually explains a lot.

They can get money from other sources, like appearances, plus they have a good chance of meeting well-to-do gentlemen, if that's their goal.  I wonder if they get a cut of the calendars.

Another horrible misuse of the "hero" tag.

If you're getting paid for it, and you're trained for it, you're not being a hero. You're doing your goddamned job.

She's no more a hero now than she was when she successfully did the splits as a cheerleader. Paid, trained, doing what she's supposed to do.

Now, if she were STILL a cheerleader, not trained as a soldier, and just voluntarily wandered to Afghanistan to help people without promise of compensation, then  she'd be something like a hero.

Good thing it's warming up in Philly; the fans won't be able to throw snowball at her.  Of course they can still boo her.

Having served, there's something about those uniforms that strips away beauty.  You really can't tell if someone has a good body or pretty face.  It's weird.

I remember that being on the calendar - my boss made the cover of it just before she got the job as my boss - was a relatively big deal for her, but I don't remember if that was because of directly getting a cut of it or just the publicity...

I do remember that you're 100% correct about the appearances and meeting rich guys part though. She said that they'd do these appearances where rooms full of "businessmen" would line up, chat with them for a minute and then hand them some cash or even give them a check. Sounded pretty weird to me. She met her BF at the time through the cheerleading. Some fairly rich guy. A schmuck, but she had a daughter to look out for...

The Army agrees.  Classifying female front-line soldiers as "military intelligence" is just a way to get around the law.  (And, although the law's changed, they haven't completely rolled it out yet.)

ZeroCorpse: Another horrible misuse of the "hero" tag.

Another insufferable post by someone who does not know that the word "hero" has more than one definition/use, and is apparently custom designing his own unique(ie arbitrary) definition.  Here's a hint, your subjective qualification means fark all to the rest of the planet's use of the word.  To fit that definition, she has to be admired by some, not any specific individual.

With her looks, she could have gotten a lot of jobs that pay better than the military, and not all of them involving sex/porn.
What she chose is admirable, in the eyes of many, and that qualifies her as a "hero".

Go wash the sand out of your vagina or find a real cause to champion.

English, how the fark does it work?
