I'm only going to have time for one movie this weekend, sorry Ron Burgundy, but American Hustle looks much better, so you're going to have to wait for Blu Ray.

2013-12-20 02:40:43 PM
I'm sure he's not tired of all the money he's making off it.

At least, I hope he's got a cut of the gross for all the cross promotion they've been doing.

2013-12-20 02:46:26 PM
Now I just want to hear the song without some over-hyped ham chewing the scenery.

2013-12-20 02:47:10 PM
If only it was just boring and not extremely annoying.

2013-12-20 02:47:44 PM
I was tired of Ron Burgundy about 15 minutes into Anchorman, but ymmv

2013-12-20 02:48:47 PM
Anchorman is the only movie that I have stopped watching in under 30 minutes.

AWFUL.

2013-12-20 02:49:05 PM
I wonder if they spent as much on the movie as they have on promotion.  When I see this much hype before an opening I just have to assume the film is a stinker.

Hopefully Christopher Cross got paid well for that performance.

And I will be seeing American Hustle tonight.

2013-12-20 02:51:41 PM
I was waiting for Christopher Cross to stop the bit, walk over to Will Ferrell and punch him.

That was awkward, at best. I can't imagine being a musician, and basically getting heckled while performing with somebody you have to share the stage with.

2013-12-20 02:59:47 PM
Someday, someone is going to write a book (or at least a long-form Esquire/New Yorker piece) highlighting this movie's media campaign, and what not to do. Everything associated with this should have been dialed back by like 30%.

2013-12-20 03:03:36 PM
I thought Anchorman was OK as the sort of thing to watch that kinda washes over you and has some funny moments and dialogue, like most of the Will Ferrell/Ben Stiller stuff. When Anchorman appears on TV or a streaming service, I'll watch it.

But I don't get the fuss that means people will pay money to see it at the cinema. Films like Shaun of the Dead, Ted and Ghostbusters have a lot of laughs, but are also more satisfying as a complete story.

2013-12-20 03:03:49 PM
I loved the first Anchorman, but all this heavy, hackneyed over-promotion is turning me off from wanting to see Anchorman 2.

It's one thing to hype a movie, but it's another thing entirely to drive it into the ground. I won't be surprised if I see Will Ferrell's face on a box of feminine hygiene products or doing PSAs about mammograms.

2013-12-20 03:05:00 PM
Maybe if the promotion for the movie wouldn't start full guns blazing 4 months before it opens, we wouldn't be sick of it either.

I thought the movie had been out for at least a month to surprisingly find out it just opened...Dear God...what's the marketing budget?  5.9 gazillion?

Man, lots of clinched buttholes in here.

I've seen every part of that movie but never all at once.  It's actually a great movie to have on while you're cleaning the house since you can catch a few minutes here and there without missing too much.  The plot isn't terribly important and it has some funny vignettes.

2013-12-20 03:16:37 PM
I look forward to the failure of this over-advertised piece of garbage.

Mostly, the only real reason to tune in is for the gang fight. That's hilarious, I don't care who you are.
But the rest...eh...hmm...whatever.

I find Stiller hilarious as a comic villain, nearly unbearable as a lovable-loser protagonist.

To me, it just seems like Jack Black has been doing the same shtick over and over and over to the point of making even Adam Sandler say "Dude!  Try something different."

You mileage, of course, may vary.

I do as well, but the really annoying car ads associated with this movie run during NFL games and my friend and I don't care enough about avoiding them that we hit pause on a game for 30 minutes just so we can FF through them. Hit the mute button, sure.

My issue with Jack Black is no matter what he's cast as, the funny noises and slapstick he uses will almost without fail show up. My example for this is Nacho Libre. I was actually enjoying the film until, if I remember correctly, he mimicked a trumpet. It didn't combine with the character at all so took me out of the movie, and felt like it was added just because it's his schtick.

Will Ferrell was epic in Independents Day: "Now that's what I call a close encounter of the third kind!" Ha! I also liked him in I am Robot, Man in Black and After Earf. Haven't seen Anchor Man yet but if his powers are as good as they were in Handcock then sign me up.

This might be coming from Over exposure from the years it seemed like he was in almost every comedy coming out. To me, he seems to work better in ensemble casts where he's not the focal character such as Mystery Men, Dodgeball, or Tropic Thunder. Still better than Vince Vaughn, though.

Yup, I liked Jack in SoR, so much so I wanted him to succeed in something else, because he's very likeable. But his following movies were awful.

Then again, he was friggin awesome in Tropic Thunder. That whole scene where he's tied to a tree, begging to be released, and graphically describing what an awesome blow job he would give anybody who untied him made me hysterical...

OK now you've made me mad. Land of the Lost (the original) had a very deep mythology wrapped up in a kiddie show. It is just screaming out for a rebooting, but in a more grown-up, serious trappings. It could have been epic. Instead, we got an absolutely terrible Will Farrell schlockfest, thus killing the franchise for decades (maybe forever).
