I'd buy her a drink. Or four!

When asked for comment, the bailiff was simply quoted as saying "No, no, no."

"I have some health issues," she said. "I'm going into treatment for them. I have two weeks off starting [Friday]. I'm going to be in an intense outpatient program on a huge bender."

Intense outpatient program... hahaha...

Go check yourself in somewhere for those two weeks, Judge.

What's that got to do with court?

Goes to show that everyone has their demons. That said, she should refrain from judging others for theirs. Either she will be a hypocrite or too lenient.

Addiction is not a disease - and phrasing it a "personal health issue" is a stretch.  They try to spin it like she's more empathetic in her role, but the cynic in me only sees the hypocrisy that is so rampant in the local court systems and their profiteering partners.

That's not half as crazy as the Virginia judge who threatened to kill his fellow judges.
Ol' Archie threatened them because they'd not agree to a consecutive term as that court's chief judge.
A retiring chief judge earns a higher pension but VA code prohibits consecutive chief judges.

I hear tell this one time he told all the defendants in his court that he had a drug detector installed in the courtroom ceiling.

Well it was a DRUG court, should I not have done that?

It may not be a disease.  We could probably argue about that endlessly, but to say it's not a "personal health issue" is just beyond stupid.

You could sew a lot of flask size pockets in that robe.

Exactly my thoughts on the matter. 30 days in patient would be better.

It has been classified that way for alcoholism since 1956

How could they tell she is acting erratically being a woman and such.

Bless her for doing the right thing.  Damn, she is cute.

0/10.

C'mon, try harder.

More like an intense 'impatient' program AMIRIGHT LOL!

On a more serious note, I'm thinking some of her sentences to past defendants might be overturned on the grounds that she might not have been sober when she pronounced them?

I believe a more important point is, she she knows she can be saved from alcohol, and she is involving others to achieve her goal.

You couldn't if it is already full of flask size pockets.

She should have her life and career taken away like the rest of the nation when this kind of stuff happens.

Just to set the record straight, she's also fining herself $50.

I wonder what the success rate of a two-week outpatient treatment system is?

Let's check in with a random graduate of the program, Tim from Ohio.

Tim - how did that work out for you?

I don't have a problem with alcohol, but I know that when I'm under a lot of stress, I eat crappy food. And I eat a lot of it.

It's not the same thing, but I believe it's similar.

I'm glad she noticed she slipped, took measures to get treatment and will follow through. My only concern is the two week, out patient aspect. She's not doing anyone a favor (including herself) by rushing through the program. Take as much time as you need to get healthy and on track again.

And yeah, she looks fantastic for 55!

Did 7 days detox then 28 days in recovery.  Started IOP and quit after 4 classes, absolutely useless program.  Still sober and doing the AA thing.   Judge is just trying to keep her job throwing the court a bone.   "Look I'm getting help!"   If she really has a problem it will show soon enough.

/Should probably change my user name huh?

Everyone has known, probably for years. But blindness to mental health problems is one of the cornerstones of the American way of life, so self-medicating is largely accepted up until it becomes an embarrassment, unless you're an expendable at the bottom of the ladder. This level of hypocrisy is just another cornerstone of American ideal. Short of giving herself 72 hours in jail and 400 of community service she's just another asshole on top giving herself a free pass.
