I'd prefer my pilot fed and happy, thank you very much. That's a long-ass flight.

But after reading the article, this guy was an asshat. I can't believe no airport cafes could make a sandwich.

What, the stewardesses couldn't whip something up?

What kind of sandwich?

2013-12-19 11:43:05 PM
How do you have a flight from Lahore to New York and no meals on the airplane?  Even United throws some "food" at you when you cross the pond.

2013-12-19 11:44:53 PM
This story sounds entirely plausible and I shall make angry comments without determining its accuracy.

A) the pilot didnt order from a five star hotel; PIA did
B) it's a long flight, and if the pilot had not had any food for some extended period beforehand, he was right to do this

request food, ok. but after a half hour so so he should have settled for roller food from the quickie mart.

and if he has some medical condition where he has to eat every so often or his system crashes he shouldn't be flying.

The pilot could have:

1. Packed his own lunch
2. Eaten the nuts, chips, or biscuits
3. Sent one of the stewardesses in to grab him something from one of the airport restaurants

I'm trying to figure out if this is a sandwich for the pilot or sandwiches for the entire plane full of people. The article doesn't make it clear as far as I can tell. If it's for all the passengers, it might be a more reasonable thing to do. If it's just for him then that's just weird.

2013-12-19 11:58:48 PM
It was a Pakistan airport, see now in a typical american airport there would be 15 restaurants available to choose from, on the bad side this paki pilot would of probably waited 2 hours for sammiches and be given pork meat which would delay the flight even more.

/Its a joke, but really I've seen delta pilots waiting in line to grab a bite to eat before flying, either they are sobering up or actually eating - who knows anymore.

Like there was no other food that couldn't be found within 2.5 hours in an entire airport. Oh wait, THEY HAD FOOD ON THE PLANE, JUST NOT SAMMICHES.

It's Pakistan. Accomplishing anything there is problematic at best, unless it involves shooting little girls in the head, or accusing a polio vaccination program of being a secret Zionist sterilization campaign.

A) the pilot DID order from a five star hotel; PIA gave in
B)No where in the article does it states when the last time the pilot had his feeding.
C) there is now an investigation which means he is in trouble, and not right

Don't they have a subway restaurant or something at the airport?

2013-12-20 12:14:04 AM
1. The flight was really long and they didn't have food for lots of people?
2. The Pilot knew he was flying a plane on a long trip and didn't make sure it would have food on it?
3. Knowing the plane didn't have food, he didn't bring a sandwich?
4  Not bringing a sandwich, he didn't get something in the airport?
5. Not having any food, he ordered out from a fancy-ass hotel instead of the schwarma place across the street?
6. What the hell kind of sandwich takes 2+ hours to make?  I want one.

"When the pilot learned there were no sandwiches on the menu -- only peanuts, chips and biscuits, according to the paper "

Whaaa?  Lahore to NYC and you only have peanuts, chips, and biscuits on the plane?  I'd probably wait for a sandwich too.

2013-12-20 12:16:11 AM
In related news, Pakistani airlines make day-long international flights with only peanuts, chips and biscuits on board. (Thanks, Google Maps. 8.5 hour flight, or 85 hours of driving!)

Are you retarded or a troll?

CSB:
Last Christmas I was flying from Houston to Roanoke with a stopover in Charlotte.  I missed my connection flight because the Houston plane was a hour late in taking off.

Because they had to fix an armrest in first class.

They delayed a full damn plane and caused at least at least a half dozen people to miss their connections because of a damn seat with a busted armrest.

F'ing US Airways...

Now see, I should have read comments further... He could have said "What?  Lahore to London, with no food?  Here's my card, get about a hundred foot-longs, right now!.  Don't forget pickles.  Make at least one without mayo."

That would be cool.

It may be that this new story has been twisted via translation error and lazy reporting. I suspect that the flight had no adequate food so he ordered some for the passengers and the crew... it took 2 1/2 hours to fulfill the request.

2013-12-20 12:23:45 AM
It's not so much the 1 hour and 30 minute delay.  It's finding out that you put your life into the hands of a complete and utter twat.

This is the original story from the Pakistani paper:

http://www.nation.com.pk/national/15-Dec-2013/pilot-s-love-for-sandw ic hes-delays-flight

Apparently there was lunch served, but the route used to serve sandwiches as an in-between meal instead of the peanuts/chips/biscuits.  To cut costs, the airline cut out the sandwiches

So the pilot held up the flight so that the passengers could get sandwiches again.  That makes more sense.

Awesome. Simply awesome.

Does anyone else find it funny that the flight in question was Pakistan International Airlines flight 711? I hope the sandwich came with a free Slurpee.

polio vaccination program of being a secret Zionist sterilization campaign.

It is how the US located Bin Laden.......fark the US for now making every health worker a suspect and getting a few killed.

Ni: I'd prefer my pilot fed and happy, thank you very much. That's a long-ass flight.

It is an 8h30m flight from Lahore (LHE) to Manchester (MAN).
The pilot was at the plane from before 6:45am and it appears he thought he had an agreement that he could eat a real meal after takeoff, (not just airline peanuts) but then some petty bureaucrats in the airline decided to screw with him.

http://www.nation.com.pk/national/15-Dec-2013/pilot-s-love-for-sandw ic hes-delays-flight
The catering department served approved menu, including lunch, peanuts, chips and biscuits. ... The catering staff expressed their inability to serve anything beyond the approved menu and also informed him of the sensitivity of the flight's departure time. The staff told him that sandwiches could only be arranged by placing an order to a five-star hotel in the city, which would take more than two hours.
...
It is worth mentioning here that the PIA management has revised the menu on international and long-haul flights as a cost-saving campaign and sandwiches were replaced with peanuts, chips and biscuits. This service was started from November 25.

The incident appears to have happened on Dec 14.

Was in the States on a long ass trek from Adelaide to Auckland to LAX to Denver in late September when my LAX - Den flight was cancelled because the pilot didn't like a spring in his seat. The fact the flight had flown in was immaterial. Maint couldn't locate part, so everybody off. United did at least get me on the next flight (may have been something to do with the international connection and fare), who knows, but plenty didn't. But fark, Pakistan / London / NY and no onboad food would not be fun

I read that and it doesn't seem to actually state that the passengers were getting sammiches. Perhaps it's just vaguely worded.

If he did hold up the flight so that *everyone* could have sammiches it sound like a "work to rule" kind of thing.

2013-12-20 12:52:55 AM

Curious: and if he has some medical condition where he has to eat every so often or his system crashes he shouldn't be flying.

So, basically you are saying no one should be flying? Because I'm pretty sure every organism on the planet with a digestive system has this medical condition. :p

;)
