Harry was probably a miserable kid growing up with the Dursleys.

But the play, to be steered by prominent London and New York producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, will mine (according to a statement sent to me, as a mudblood, by Owl Post yesterday) 'the previously untold story of Harry Potter's early years as an orphan and outcast'.

So, before all the interesting parts... Did George Lucas write this?

"You know all those stories about courage and friendship and growth set in a universe hidden in our own full of wonder and imagination? Yeah, fark that with a stick. We're going to focus on the abuse of a pre-teen after his parents are murdered. The songs just write themselves!"

I heard he went to India and studied and maybe went to Japan. Or was that the other wizard series, Testaments, or whatever?

I thought that was Bruce Wayne?

At some point, it just looks desperate. Let it go, lady.

Rowling's appears to be taking a page from the George Lucas Prequel Playbook.

Yeah, this will end well.

I thinks she looks pretty good for her age.

Since the films start with him locked in a cupboard and terribly abused won't this play necessarily have to end on a thoroughly depressing note?

Is this where we find out how Harry is a really normal, well-adjusted kid despite his parents dying and being raised by an abusive family that hate him? I'm sure JK will write a cohesive and satisfying plot rather than mining some aspect of growing up, throwing in some latin and having someone pulling a solution out of their ass in the 3rd act featuring a new piece of magic that will never get used again, regardless of its usefulness. And none of the kids will be traumatised by say, seeing a murder, or possession or nearly getting killed by a giant farking snake and be kidding around about funny tasting sweets in the next scene.

Didn't it start when he was like 8 or 9 to begin with?
And didn't they already establish his life was fairly ordinary, other than being abused by his uncle?

I don't care if she goes back to the Harry Potter well, but this doesn't seem to be the proper place to go!

Harry Potter and The Child Abuse.

I was going to say, wouldn't this be a horrible and depressing thing to watch? What are they going to do next, cast Daniel Radcliffe as the lead in Equus or something?

Wow, this is less interesting than Watchmen Babies.

What she should make instead is a Play following Neville longbottom's career as a teacher and later head master at Hogwarts.

Sonia Friedman produces seriously important stuff. If she is involved there is a lot more to this than what you get from a brief press release.
