I'm a huge fan of harry potter but I could give a sh*t less what color you imagine him to be. Personally I go with Korean.

Oh, I'm not bothered in the slightest what people want to imagine Santa Claus to be. In fact, I, too, used Harry Potter to make that point to someone the other day. I was referring to the "artificial cultural holiday" part.

Eh, not to be pedantic, but Christmas isn't officially over until Twelfth Night, or the Feast of the Epiphany, which is overlooked or unobserved by most people, but for those of us who celebrate it, it marks the beginning of the Carnival season. So, while everyone else is putting stuff away and slogging through winter, our party is just getting started.

Why is it an "artificial" cultural holiday?

Seems pretty natural to me.  May as well call the Tet Festival or Diwali or Eid  "An artificial cultural holiday"

Um. Sorry to burst your bubble but Santa is fictional. The character has been modified so much that any relation to anyone alive or dead is purely coincidental.

No matter about how they believe in the whiteness of Santa Claus, they believe 100% that their nag will come in first at Santa Anita.

whidbey: We need to go back to telling our kids Santa doesn't exist.

Dude. The other day at the dinner table we were talking about this stupid "issue" and I made the mistake of saying Santa is "imaginary" - my 7-year-old daughter nearly bit my leg. I managed to calm her down by saying I meant to say "magic". Quick thinking, and she bought it.

Christmas is not over until my wife finally puts the Christmas music away and tells me I need to get the boxes out to store the ornaments.  That sometimes goes as far as mid-January.

are those folks going to stay up christmas eve and take pictures to verify it. wait there's photoshop. how about someone capturing him and then in the morning we can all tune in to GMA or the today show and see for ourselves. of course all the kids downstream of where he gets captured won't have any presents but it's worth it to answer this once and for all.

Yes, Santa is white.  So was Jesus.  And Ghandi.  And God.  And everyone else who represents charity, helpfulness, and good in the world.  If you disagree, you hate America and need to get out.

My answer to any Santa related question would hinge on whether or not there were young children in the room. As to Santa's "verifiable" ethnicity, I would go with "Ask his reindeer, or his elves - they'd know the answer."
