I'm just as shocked as the rest of you........

I don't think mandated drug tests for legislators is dumb...

2013-12-19 04:53:51 PM
The dumber item isn't "dumber" than the first.  Legislators should be of sound mind when legislating.

2013-12-19 04:54:42 PM
I think we should have mandated drug use for our legislators.  We know they are going to screw up somehow why not at least make it interesting.

2013-12-19 04:57:00 PM
The legislators being required to take a drug test isn't dumb. The headline should have pointed out the legislators who fail it won't be publicly outed and won't face penalties because of it, and that is what is dumb about it.

ikanreed: Legislators should be of sound mind when legislating.

Yea, but even without the use of narcotics I suspect many of them still would be found dramatically wanting on a standard neuropsychiatric assessment.

I disagree. I think they should be on mandatory psychedelic drugs. They should be so addled that they jibber a divine messages from on high like powerful shaman of yesteryear. And just when they peak, they have a massive orgy on the floor of the chamber the culminates in a vote.

2013-12-19 05:00:58 PM
Well, I suppose that explains Rob Ford...

Drug tests for legislators might not be the best idea. Imagine how depressed we'll all be when it turns out that most of them are destroying our country while stone cold sober.

/call them Patriotic Freedom tests.

Chandler v. Miller (1997) already decided that drug tests for candidates for political offices were unconstitutional.

But Legislating While Driving is still a ticket, right?

2013-12-19 05:08:36 PM
Drug tests are bullshiat, period. Get rid of them.

2013-12-19 05:17:08 PM
I would have gone with an 'Obvious' tag myself.

2013-12-19 05:17:18 PM
The ones found to be using drugs should be sentenced to 20 years of mandatory assrape and stabbings in a prison.

To be fair.

2013-12-19 05:19:13 PM
I'm okay with this as long as the legislators are thoroughly tested. I suggest taking a lot of blood samples, liters and liters at a time.

Want to get rid of drug tests?

Make the people that write the rules take them regularly.

I'd give it two months before all drug testing was "unconstitutional" and abolished.

Drug testing companies make a mint from them. Do you want to destroy jobs or something?

2013-12-19 05:52:36 PM
No disclosure and no penalties?  Then what's the point?

Why make the health industry just as wasteful and pointless as Congress?

I'm sure they could be retrained to do something else in the burgeoning recreational marijuana industry.

I would think a decent argument could be made that a candidate is very different form an elected official.

I would be happy if we could just test for sanity.

You know, just to make sure they get the help they really need.

Candidates, yes. Public employees, no.

I agree, but until they remove them from job employers, people on welfare should be tested.

I have to do it to work to pay for them to get the check.

I agree. We should use shrooms as a mediation tool for our congressmen. You know how hard it is to be a dick to someone when you're on shrooms?

Sooo... You pee into a cup, and then throw it away? Okay.

Just smash your head into the keyboard three times and add "your dog wants steak" if you want to go with this method, tardmitter.

No Subby. Mandated drug tests for job applicants and welfare recipients is dumbest. Mandated drug tests for legislators is absolute, unfiltered genius. Bring it.

2013-12-19 09:03:21 PM
The more tax dollars your take, the more you should be tested.

You would be wrong.

But nobody is preventing any of these guys from having some testing company check them every month at random. It wouldn't cost much, and if the voters actually care, then it will be a de facto requirement.

But drug-testing for welfare is just peachy.

I'm not talking about drug testing candidates... I'm talking about drug testing government employees. These jagoffs say anyone on the state dole should  be drug tested...they should take that to its logical end.

Hi kids! Your mom tested positive for pot! NO FOOD FOR YOU!

Hi dad! You got stoned at friends house and now we won't give food to your kids! Guess it's a life of crime for you!

When it becomes public knowledge what our so-called superiors are smoking, perhaps the War on Civil Liberties Drugs might wind down a bit.

Yeppers.  It's been proven to be most cost effective.

I have to take mandatory drug tests to keep my job as a contractor for the dept. of energy... so do 10s of thousands of others in similar positions to mine. Why is it okay that all of us have to forgo our 5th amendment rights in order to pay taxes but those who collect their salaries directly from those taxes (welfare recipients and congressman) do not?
