DNRTFA but did the greaseman go all antisemite again?

FTA: Putin had no regret.  He said, "I was not sorry that they ended up behind bars.  I was sorry that they were engaged in such disgraceful behavior, which in my view was degrading to the dignity of women."

That is so like an apology my mother would give.  :/

Didn't they break into private property and somehow deface Church property, or something?  Essentially trespassing, vandalism, with an added dose of violating Russian hate crime legislation?

As retarded as the Duck Dynasty guy is and his comments were about as bad as can be, I am glad he has the right to say what he did without fear of being imprisoned. America isn't perfect, but our free speech laws are excellent

Yeah subby, sorry but it's still not a good story. The Pussy Riot girls are being released in Russia as part of an amnesty program and NOT because some Russian judge or Putin said, "Hey, jailing them goes against their rights of freedom of speech, we should release them." Once Putin stops being the ex-KGB dick that he always seems to be, then there might be cause for hope in Russia.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

I'll just leave that there for all the Constitution carriers that have never actually read it.

Has it been 2 years already? I remember when this story broke, and it didn't seem like 2 years ago...

You expect WAY too much from Tsar Vladimir.

I'm not positive that a story about feminist punk rock activists doesn't involve beards.

And locking up women for protesting might just be a little more degrading to the dignity of women than the protesting in the first place. Just a hunch.

I have spent a good portion of my day explaining to people why Phil Robertson's suspension from his A&E show has nothing to do with 1st Amendment rights. For people who claim to love the constitution so much, they sure can't distinguish from private action and government action, and how that impacts constitutional rights.

Nice they are getting out, but the whole process harkens back to the days of tsardom. Shaky rule of law, little personal freedom, vindictive prosecution of anyone who challenges the status quo. All of which culminates in a release at the mercy of the state. Indeed, fark Putin and his court of lackeys

Wait, did the Duck Dynasty guy get thrown in jail because his speech was offensive to the government?

No?

Did he get pepper sprayed by police at least?

No?

Did he get a stern warning from government officials?

Nope?

Oh, someone called out his bullshiat for what it was, but had no force of government behind them to do more than say "Hey, that's kinda bullshiat and hateful and ignorant"?

I always think she looks like an Eastern European Scarlet Johansen.  It's those sexy eyes and lips.  Possibly also cheekbones.

The guards at her Siberian gulag must consider themselves very lucky men.

Free speech is like real estate in some respects-location, location, location.

You cannot yell fire in a movie theater and most places of employment have polices restricting political expression as well as proselytizing while on the clock and on company property

No fan of Putin and am not familiar with all the details of the Pussy Riot case but was their offense not so much what they said but the venue, a church, and their method of entry-as I understand it?

FTFA
<em>The protest that landed the band in trouble took place on February 21, 2012. Five members of the protest group<strong> broke into the Moscow cathedral </strong>to perform their "punk prayer."</em>

Now I am sure Putin being Putin and Russia being Russia that the content of their message had a lot to do with the harshness of their punishment but even in the good all USA you cannot break into somebody's property to express yourself without the possibility of some form of punishment-though a long stint in jail is unlikely. if all you do is sing a protest song.

Could this be part of the "disgraceful behavior" (mentioned by Putin) that got them in prison? Breaking and entering tends to be illegal in most areas of the world and does get people locked up.

I loved it when he was on until 10 AM. My brother and I went to his last show at DC101 and were disappointed they made him leave the property as soon as the show was over.

What is this Katie Holmes free speech story Subby is referring to? I must have missed it.

You would be incorrect (though I agree that taxation should be discussed).

The whole taxation and property talk is kinda moot seeing as how this happened in Russia and they have entirely different laws.

Not only that, it was his boss (tv producers, whatever) that decided that what he said was hateful and ignorant. There were very few, if any, calls from the public to discipline him. A&E decided they don't want his views damaging their brand, you know, they were exercising their freedom of speech.

Waiting for the "modmins" to greenlight/mainpage the first major Duck Dynasty story.

Seems they don't like when libtarded Satanic points of view are exposed to the light.  The hottest debate of the day - not a single story on Fark.

Dunno what my mom would have said, but I salute those ladies. Even the trespassing/whatever. Russia is pretty terribad for freedom of speech these days again.

TheSwissNavy: fark putin

This x1000, even if I do have a really weird fascination with him. That doesn't make him less of a dick.

I think he is fascinating because he is a James Bond Villain who either isn't insanely ambitious (I mean, he only wants to run a country) or just has yet to reveal his inevitable dastardly plan.
