Ouch. It's easy to laugh at "best Korea", but the place really is a horror show.

If you haven't already read "Escape From Camp 14" I highly recommend you do so. It's an amazing book.

Sadly I doubt Dennis Rodman will heed Shin Dong-hyuk's words.

I saw it at a book store and flipped open to a random page.

He talked about how prisoners were mounted on a pole and basically spit roasted over a fire.

NOPE

It is at times a very hard book to read, but at the same time it's important for the world to know what really know the truth about places like Camp 14.

Fark Dennis Rodman.

Wow, powerful stuff. Last night my friends and I were talking about how being born in Canada is like winning the "life lottery", I guess being born in that camp would be the polar opposite of that.

In a place where the people resort to eating rats and cannibalism to survive, and Kim's father was the single largest buyer of Hennesy in the world... yeah

National Geographic did an amazing special on North Korea.

Lisa Ling went in with an eye doctor who was there to restore sight to the blind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxLBywKrTf4

Its isane over there... Once these people have their sight restored the first thing they are ALLOWED to see is a picture of the Dear Leader, who they then PRAISE for giving them their sight back.

In the coming year, the commission's findings may force the U.N. Security Council to decide whether to   of the Kim family and other North Korean officials for crimes against humanity.

In the coming year, nothing like that will happen. But thank you for your enthusiasm.

Outside of those high up in the military and political power structure, these people are indoctrinated from birth that this guy is a living God, and his linage is divinely touched. NK propaganda may seem comical to us, but many of the population there view it as the gospel truth.

While some cracks are starting to form in that fabric as more and more western culture and luxuries get smuggled in, this society is still 100 years behind what you would expect even the most totalitarian dictatorship in existence to look like.

Just imagine what it's like to LIVE it. Or, die it, as it were.

Yes. That's right. I totally remember torturing people in North Korea.

Because that's totally the same as being horrified by a single paragraph in that book and deciding that I just don't have the fortitude to read it all.

Completely the same.

This is a good point you're making.

Yep. And if he did, he wouldn't say squat to Kim about it.

When/if the Kim regime falls, the humanitarian impact will be a sight to behold.

Side note: If (supposedly) Kim has a daughter, and she remains his only child, would she be the next Dear Leader? Or would she be "skipped over?"

Canadians = Snow Mexicans

2013-12-19 02:49:47 PM
"At first they pretended to laugh to scorn the idea of
animals managing a farm for themselves. The whole thing would be over in a
fortnight, they said. They put it about that the animals on the Manor Farm
(they insisted on calling it the Manor Farm; they would not tolerate the
name "Animal Farm") were perpetually fighting among themselves and were
also rapidly starving to death.
When time passed and the animals had
evidently not starved to death, Frederick and Pilkington changed their
tune and began to talk of the terrible wickedness that now flourished on
Animal Farm. It was given out that the animals there practised cannibalism,
tortured one another with red-hot horseshoes, and had their females in
common. "

How odd that fiction turns into reality.

I've always had a morbid interest in murder, and I've read/seen some farked up stuff.  Not a hell of a lot shocks me.

I read that book and was just numb the whole time.  It was like my brain couldn't process the sheer brutality, sadism, and sociopathy that goes on in those camps.  It's like you can't accept that there are people (and so many of them) so vicious and devoid of any kind of humanity out there.  Those guards are monsters unlike anything I've ever come across.  The Nazis didn't have shiat on these guys.

It's...unreal.  That's all I can say.  God bless this guy.

I think we could scrap up enough money to buy her a rifle and ticket to get over there. She'll be able to finish what MacAurthur couldn't with almost 1,000,000 well trained, equipped, and supplied troops. But if she can't it'll be the fault of a guy who didn't want to read a book.

Escape From Camp 14 made me so angry I wanted to hurt someone, which is probably not the best or most productive way to feel, but I was beyond flipping-a-table mad.  Angry that there are people doing that to other people, angry there people who are allowing it, and angry there's not really a damn thing I can do about it.  When it was over I went to bed physically sick to my stomach.

Because being tortured effects your ability to read, write, or dictate.

And because there are so many people who escape from there telling stories of unicorns and rainbows. You reek of Sean Penn.
