I knew the Garvin Stomp was too brutal!

While I am not quite sure that the punter should be considered defenseless when they are downfield trying to make a tackle, that was a vicious hit.

This. Nobody, let alone punters who wear less protection (if I remember right), has to be hit hard enough to fracture a jaw and crack a vertebrae.

Garvin clearly did the leading with the crown of the helmet. It was a clear spear and those types of hit should always come with huge penalties and fines.  Punter said he was going to come back next year, but I doubt it.

Less protection or not, he wasn't defenseless as soon as he started becoming a defender, but it was a vicious, dirty hit.  Had Garvin made the same hit, except leading with his shoulder instead of his helmet, this would likely have been a non-issue, even if Huber suffered the same injury.

Just wait until they play the Bengals again.  The Bengals will get their revenge by doing absolutely nothing, and the Steelers will exhibit their contrition by pulling Andy Dalton's helmet off and using his nose to clean their spikes.

By stupid NFL rule, he was defenseless the whole play.

Garvin deserved the fine though.  Just block the damn guy with your hands.

I wouldn't suspend him either. We saw how bitter he got about being suspended from postseason play.

He could've just pushed and pancaked him. I'm pretty sure that would've been an effective block without ending a guy's season.

I do enjoy idiot Steeler fans claiming it was a legal hit and calling Huber a pussy. Yes, getting a fractured jaw and cracked vertebrae after taking a helmet to the face is a clear sign of weakness. What percentage of Pittsburgh fans aren't mouth breathing retards? 10%, maybe?

Tell that to Bengals fans who think the shoulder-to-shoulder block on Keith Rivers was dirty because it resulted in injury.

Garvin obviously hit Huber too high, but still the primary point of contact was Garvin's facemask on Huber's chest.  It certainly deserves a fine but not a suspension like some people are saying because the intent was not to injure, just to blow Huber up with a big hit. What gets me is that people are saying Garvin should have gone easy and played pat-a-cake on Huber - what are these people thinking?  Garvin is barely holding onto a roster spot, if he holds back and Huber avoids him and makes a tackle - certainly possible given the position that Huber was in - Garvin's out of a job and probably out of the league for good.  Garvin did his job, the only thing he did wrong was that he was a few inches too high.

So it's $25,000 for nearly killing a punter, and $100,000 for standing too close to the sidelines enough to disrupt a play. Good to see safety is being made a priority in this gOH FOR FARK'S SAKE GOODELL ARE YOU EVEN TRYING ANYMORE?

They are just fans. I was just out there for a game and had fun, I was rooting for the opponent. Always have had a good time, never rooting for Pittsburgh...

The fine is actually in violation of the CBA and will be reduced to around $6000 on appeal. As a first time offender he can't be fined more than 25% of his weekly pay, which is $23,530

Yes, so you agree hitting the punter in the neck/helmet area was bad as was Garvin leading with his helmet and he deserved a fine for it.  You both just hate that the term for "you cannot hit that guy in the neck/head or hit him using your helmet" is "defenseless."
