Apparently this was his screen test for the part.

When asked about how he got the role, Janet said "Beats me?"

IdBeCrazyIf: I'm not sure about this particular casting, I mean I just don't see Rudd as the kind of guy who would beat his wife

the opposite of charity is justice: Is this Hank Pym Ant-Man or  Scott Lang Ant-Man?

Pym seems pointless in the movie continuity, he isn't a founding member of these Avengers and Stark has changed over time from engineer to scientist making Pym redundant.

I can definitely see Rudd filling the role of Lang's original concept, the down-on-his-luck single father ex-con.  Just make Pym some SHIELD scientist if using him at all, a barely mentioned easter egg.

Rumor is he'll play Scott Lang, who steals Pym's Ant-Man technology.

Vertdang: Good casting, I can totally see Rudd doing well as Pym.

Nope, I'm positive (with absolutely zero objective evidence) that he won't be playing Hank Pym, even if he's in the role of Ant-Man.

Being that Disney owns the rights to Marvel, there will be no woman hitting...

And that's why. In fact, I bet we won't ever see Pym on screen as a hero or main character. Because this is the first and biggest thing he's known for. One storyline where he goes nuts from zipping bigger and smaller, and hits his wife (among a bunch of other evil acts). Disney can't sell action figures of a character with that kind of baggage. (Even though Warner can sell Joker toys right beside Oracle-in-a-wheelchair figures).

Rudd is a much better fit as shady Scott Lang or outright skeeze Eric O'Grady than as plain ol' Pym, voted World's Most Boring Biophysicist by his fellow biophysicists. Not the most exciting bunch to begin with. So it'll be one of the other Ant-Men, and I guess he'll be stealing the Ant-Man suit from Pym. If Marvel is smart they'll keep Pym around as the origin of a lot of developments and then he'll take off; the Stanley Tucci or Yinsen role.
