Couldn't those asshats at the NSA be repurposed to build out the website? They've got all this computer knowledge. You'd think they'd be really good at programming websites.

It's funny because Vista is the only thing they ever made.

Kurt is a good guy. Led the Office Server side before running all of Office. He knows how shiat works

Actually, if you want to blame DelBene for controversial Microsoft decisions, he'd probably be the guy to pin the blame on for the Office ribbon and the clusterfark of HTML that results if you save a document as a web page.

2013-12-19 08:34:36 AM
Does this mean they're going to take away the nice, logical menus and add a confusing ribbon at the top of the website?

Great.

Stuck at the Doctor's office for 4 hours while service pack 2 is installed.

Well if we're gonna play that game we can say he's from the company that gave us Windows XP and 7.

Vista isn't that bad, I'd take it over Windows 8 any day.

Didn't ribbon first appear in Word in O12, which was under Sinofsky?

Actually, there's no evidence the NSA correctly monitored anything. We only know they attempted. They probably saved the entire countries text messages as one long .txt file and stored it on 300 zip disks.

Some day the US will join the rest of the civilized world and much of the uncivilized world and institute single-payer healthcare, perhaps by eliminating the minimum wage from Medicare. But that day is not today.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Throw enough hundred million dollar OS at the wall, one of them will stick.

I don't get the hate for the Office ribbon. It's probably one of the better innovations to come out of MS in a decade.

Yeah, it needs better default settings, for example it would be good to have the Sum menu on the first ribbon of Excel rather than the 3rd, but it's quite a bit more logical and simpler than trying to navigate a series of menus.

I would have went with WinME.

Get the upgrade (should be free right now).  My new laptop came with 8.1 and I was afraid I was going to hate it but the only thing I hate now is the metro style annoying ass apps - I just need to uninstall those.  It's pretty easy to switch to classic and get rid of almost all the annoying Metro crap.

Truth.

If you use foreign languages, it is actually a bit smarter than 7 as it seems to learn your usage patterns and launches apps with the language settings that you pick most often rather than the current or default or last-opened setting.

If it weren't for the crashing and slow menus, it would be pretty nice.

Don't worry.

20 years from now, you too will wait 6 hours at the emergence room, wait months to see a doctor, and be operated on by amateurs. Your kids might even be born in an ambulance or hospital hallway.

The whole point of Obama care is to make private insurance unaffordable for enough people to institute DMV style health care.

Yes, because I want the same people who have a legal monopoly on use of force to be the only ones I can turn to for healthcare.

When we people realize that putting your eggs in the government basket is a terrible idea, no matter how temptingly simple it is. Do you really want the same people who have all the drones, wire taps, hundreds of thousands of armed subordinates, and the ability to legally take your money to also be the same people you HAVE to go to for health care? Seriously?

You know I'm going to be pretty sad when America gets a modern healthcare system, we'll have so much less we can make fun of hicks like Doodle there.

The portal is the easy part.

The components of the law that start rolling out next year is the clusterfark. That's when the actual financial numbers (versus the cooked stuff they fed the CBO) start to show how thoroughly underfunded the program is. That will also be when small and large business start dropping health plans and tossing their employees into the federal pool.

Wonder who they'll bring in for that? Oh yeah, a republican Senate and House.

We already spend more tax dollars per capita on healthcare than any other country in the world. We've been paying for universal healthcare, we just haven't been getting it.

It was 2007 that introduced it to the "core" apps in Office, so yea, if DelBene came in after that I guess you can't blame him. I just know his name from his time in charge of Office, but I don't know enough about MS corp structure to know the timelines in any detail. Figured it was a better shot than blaming him for Vista, though.

Care to tell me exactly which private health insurance company can send armed officers to arrest and charge you for failure to pay your bill? Which insurance company operates surveillance drones? Which insurance company has a massive network of wiretaps and data mining? Which insurance company has a SWAT team or its own army?

The government has all those. And governments are the only entity that is legally allowed to initiate force against a citizen. That's enough power for them right there. The power over our health should be somewhere else.

Why, just today, an entire section of West Bromwich in the UK was flattened by evil RAF aerodrones for one citizen's failure to pay his medical bills, which incidentally don't exist since universal healthcare is funded through taxes and not by consumer bills. In fairness, West Bromwich kind of needed destroying. But let's not let facts get in the way of our irrational hatred of the evil, evil government which is so much more evil than the benevolent corporations that actually run the country. They're definitely not just in it for the profit and exploitation, even though that's their stated goal. No, this is all hypothetical since it's not as though every single industrialized country on the planet except America has done this already, so we just don't know what's going to happen! Fear, everyone!

Even funnier because the beloved Windows 7 is Windows Vista with a service pack and facelift.

Don't believe me? Go to the command prompt on a W7 machine and show the version. Good, now do the same on a Vista machine. Tell me the version numbers. 6.1 vs 6.0 right?

Chumps.
