I get the feeling Frank Darabont walks around LA yelling "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!! I DIRECTED SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION!" at doormen and waiters.

Is Mob City any good? I downloaded the first few episodes but I haven't watched it yet.

I stopped watching after the first three episodes.  I thought it was kind of boring for a show with only 6-8 episodes in the first season.  I have always thought the the way USA (and lately FOX) has done their seasons, with 13 episodes, made for better TV.  22 episodes leads to filler shows while 13 means you have a story to tell and get there pretty quick.  The really short season Mob City had should have meant even more story development at a faster pace but again it just seemed boring.  Maybe I will catch up on it when it hits Netflix or something to see if it got any better.

After he created the "where's Sofia" season of The Walking Dead you expected good story pace for his new show?

It left me kind of cold. It was a notch above "Gangster Squad," but that's really damning it with faint praise.

QFT. Broadchurch told its story in 8 episodes. 12-13 episodes is a good clip for startup to finish.

You cal also have shaitty writers who waste their 13-episode allotment for meadering and filler.

Pretty sure he only did the first season.

Thank you! Not enough people know that Darabont was the one responsible for the Sophia storyline. He is not this infallible showrunner that TWD fans think he is.

I really enjoyed it, but I'm a sucker for anything mob-related, so there's that.  But I thought it was very well done.

And The Walking Dead does get better.  I like to pretend that the second season doesn't exist.

It was ok, it seemed too much like Vegas in that it was toned down for regular TV.  It was based on LA Noir, which is a very good book.  Personally, I think Scorsese and Winters should do this on HBO like they did Boardwalk Empire; heck, take the same actors who do secondary real-life characters and have them play their BE parts since they're in LA Noir.

What really, really pissed me off is who they used to kill Bugsy.

No, he was not responsible for that crap.  His proposal for the start of season 2 was the Fall of Atlanta, including some back story on how the characters met along with how the soldier wound up in the tank from season 1.

AMC told him no, too expensive, they needed to make a stupid cowboy show and renew Mad Men.  Walking Dead was told have people stand around and talk, use less makeup, you don't need a zombie kill every show, and it went downhill from there.

Not only was it just people standing around talking but there was some unwritten rule that only two characters could be in a scene at a time. It's almost comical after you start to notice it. If two people are having a tense, whispered conversation and another character enters then one of the other characters has to leave so more tense whispering can commence. I did try watching the start of the third season and I was glad to see the introduced the prison storyline from the comics but I just couldn't care by that point.

/ Berenthal was one of the good things about the second season so I was curious about Mob City. Plus Dana Gould is in it and he's funny.
